The New Wonder Woman – Reactions to Gal Gadot Being Cast

When the world learned of Ben Affleck’s role as the new Batman, the internet erupted in rage. Similarly, when Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, there was plenty of anger and people took to Twitter to vent. But the responses to Gal Gadot were of a very different nature, with almost none having to do with her acting talent.

The minute we heard the news about Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman, we exploded all over our Facebook and Twitter accounts, complaining that he would be worse than even George Clooney. People said all sorts of things about how much he’d suck at playing Batman, but the main focus was always on his acting skills.
The point is that, with him being male, the question of whether or not he looks “right” never came up. Nobody said things like, “Oh, his chest is too flat,” or “He’s out of shape, somebody get that boy into a gym.” But that’s exactly the kind of reaction that the new Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, received. Lots of anger about her bra size, and that she’s way too skinny for the part.

I'm pretty sure that people didn't bitch about Affleck's physique because we have already seen him physically fit before. We already know he can pull off the look. If he were to look like Christian Bale in the Machinist, reactions would have been radically different.

I also clicked on the article and both of the negative tweets about Gal's physique that the writer chose as examples were written by women. So you can cross out the Evil Sexist Women-Objectifying Men Bullshit.

People are complaining because Wonder Woman is strong, intimidating and tall the actress that they cast has like no muscle mass. And it's unlikely that she'll gain like 20 lbs of muscle by the time filming begins. Sure, actings skills are important, but you have to LOOK like the character as well. If Affleck were super thin or morbidly obese and out of shape right now, he'd be getting those kind of responses as well.

But everyone was fine with this chick in the media oh nevermind most people do not know who GOTG is. You can expect more negatives comments to come because WW is the most iconic Female Hero out there!

I'm sure she'll do fine.

Not sure about the script though.

Could be the best thing ever or the worst.

Hope for the best lads. Prepare for the worst.

Honestly I think she's pretty cute. Hope she plays WW somewhat like the animated series.

I'm sure she'll get more in shape later in production.

Look what they did with Faora. Besides, wasn't she in the army? So she may know how to fight... which puts her way above 90% of most actresses or actors!

Not trying to be Mr Negative here.. I just understand some of the frustration.
The girl's beautiful. If she pulls it off, hats off to her!

I am sure they will bulk her enough and the costume she will be wearing will have a little bit of padding etc..... Plus you do not want a big old steroid out girl even Sif was not muscled out either and she look great in her costume.

Gina is tough as nails, but she still needs to work on her acting.
@Batmaniac: Perfect clip! You have them both side by side and you get to compare the acting in the scene. Also, Gal appears to be a lot taller. They might to what they did with Tom Hardy in TDKR

@ Supes

LOL!

WW needs to be gorgeous to appeal to the male audience but be smart and strong to appeal to the feminists etc.... You do not need a bulky body to do that.

I can see her in the role but I just want her to fill up a bit more. She's beautiful though just want her to thicken up a bit and I've also been wondering didn't they say that the characters are supposed to consist of different ethnicities? I believe Wonder Woman is supposed to be an Israeli?

I don't know why repeated articles are saying that none of the complaints have to do with her acting ability. It gets brought up in literally every single one of these articles.
Do her physical short-comings get brought up as well? Yes, of course they do. But I think the main point of contention is that she has no real history as an actor, and there is no evidence at all that she can handle a role of the caliber that would be demanded by a solo Wonder Woman movie. And the "Well we won't know until we give her a shot" argument that a lot of people seem to favour is heavily skewed.

Technically correct, yes - we won't know until we try. But that alter the fact that the odds of success in that gamble do change based on who they cast. And they sure didn't go up.

Look, the damage is done. Hopefully we won't see her as Wonder Woman in BatsVsSupes and they probably won't start shooting Wonder Woman for a couple of years (at least not until BatsVsSupes wraps) so if she starts eating and working out as soon as she can, she should be in fine shape for the Wonder Woman movie.
And I'm just really happy that we'll be seeing Zack Snyder doing Wonder Woman, which is something I've been personally wanting to happen, since I saw 300, back in 2007.
CavEl
CavEl - 12/6/2013, 11:44 AM
She was cast based on her looks, but we're not allowed to critic her looks? [frick] outta here!

I don't give a [frick] about her tits, or lack of in her instance, the lady can't act. She's a twig, her accent is thick as [frick] and she looks like a child compared to 37 year old Affleck and 31 year old Henry.

It was a bad choice, just by picking her we know that Snyder's going to put her in the most skimpy of panties and not update Wonder Woman's suit.

CavEl

Also, Affleck was already a physically imposing man at the height of 6'3 and weighing in at 185 pounds. His physique was never in need of questioning.
Supes17
Supes17 - 12/6/2013, 11:49 AM
I don't have a problem with the accent. She's supposed to be Amazonian, exotic, and a foreigner not 'Merican
Supes17
Supes17 - 12/6/2013, 11:53 AM
I kinda like the whole different ethnicity idea.
Wonder Woman is exotic, Superman is supposed to be an alien immigrant, Batman's American. They should keep John Stewart for a black superhero. i don't know where I stand with a latino Flash. As long as he keeps the name Barry allen or wally west I'm fine. I don't want them to change it to Bartolome Alejandro or Walter Oeste lol

She is undeniably beautiful but physical build IS A MAJOR FACTOR.
WW is a superhero & to represent that character & stay true to the comics she needs muscle tone.
Gal is rail thin,I hope her trainer can transform her build because her body now is NOT RIGHT.

horrible bad choice , Alexandra Daddario is really the only choice, she has stunning blue eyes, the closets thing to linda carter, she has already played a godess and is one in real life

@batman1216 Very tall? She's 5'9" That is short to average, even for a woman. I once dated a girl who was 6'2", now that was tall. I'm about 6'2", so if you're a woman and we're staring eye to eye, you're tall. They'll have to do what they did for Hardy. I'm not saying it's a bad cast, I'm of the wait and see.
