Patty Jenkins Confirms She's Left WONDER WOMAN Behind "For The Time Being... Easily Forever"

Despite rumors that Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot might reunite for a third Wonder Woman movie in the DCU, the filmmaker has confirmed that DC Studios is not "interested in doing any Wonder Woman."

Despite WW84's less than stellar reception, director Patty Jenkins was all set to return to helm a third movie, and had reportedly completed her script. Things changed when (or before, depending on who you believe) James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of DC Studios, and the threequel was shelved.

According to one report, the initial plan was to move forward with the project under the DCU banner, but it was actually Jenkins who decided to walk away after "receiving notes on the treatment she submitted to the studio." It seems WB higher-ups weren't completely sold on her pitch, which was said to contain "character arc problems which rivalled that of Wonder Woman 1984."

Jenkins took to social media to refute this shortly after.

“I never walked away,” Jenkins Tweeted at the time. “I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”

Diana actress Gal Gadot would later claim that a version of Wonder Woman 3 was moving forward, which led to rumors that Jenkins may have resolved her differences with the studio and returned to the fold.

"I had a meeting with (DC Studios CEOs) Peter Safran and James Gunn, and they both told me that they're going to develop a third Wonder Woman with me," the Heart of Stone star told USA Today last year. "They said, 'You're in the best hands, you've got nothing to worry about.' Time will tell."

However, Jenkins has now made it clear that her WW journey is over “for the time being, easily forever.”

“They aren’t interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being,” she tells the Talking Pictures podcast. “It’s not an easy task, with what’s going on with DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran have to follow their own heart into their own plans. I don’t know what they are planning on doing or why, so I have sympathy for what a big job it is and they have to follow their heart and do what they’ve got planned.”

There are no current plans (as far as we know, at least) for any incarnation of Wonder Woman in the first chapter of the DCU slate, "Gods and Monsters," but a Max TV series titled Paradise Lost is in development that will focus on “a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira.”

First one was solid til the third act but jfc WW84 was horrendous. I’m happy with her moving onto something else.

Wonder woman 84 was hot trash but Gunn always seems to be lying 😅

@TheLobster - On the contrary I thought the third act was the best part of the film. I found it thoroughly engaging and emotionally satisfying.

@GhostDog - good riddance to the Zionist genocode enabler. Her values as an IOF soldier and a Zionist make her unsuitable to play a role like Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman is like a Nazi actor playing superman. It’s just not right.

Doesn’t justify it tho.

No matter which way you slice it , kids and innocents are getting killed.

Since when is that morally acceptable?

@MisterDoctor217 -

The United States military has been killing kids and innocents for decades, but you're taking issue with Gal Gadot specifically. Gotcha.

@rkshuttleworth - so that makes it OK? And America are literally funding the genocide. Anyway, why the [frick] do you think I care about the yanks? They're just as blood thirsty

@BigPhilbowski - If Hamas, a terrorist organisation, literally dedicated to the genocide of the Jews, release the hostages and surrender it'll be over tomorrow.

@Radders - cool story bro. Now explain the last 70 years of Israel slaughtering civilians
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 3/15/2024, 5:24 PM
@BigPhilbowski - You mean the immediate and sad collateral damage from Israel's response to Hamas taking hostages back in October or all of what Hamas has done since the start of their movement? They would kill their own kin if necessary, but for some reason no one that chose to get involved in this delicate subject ever speaks up about them. Almost too suspicious.
BigPhilbowski
BigPhilbowski - 3/16/2024, 6:16 AM
@NinnesMBC - and theres the delusion. Acting like this started on Oct. 7 and acting like that justifies slaughtering children faster than the actual Nazis did. So again, I'll ask, what's your excuse for the 70s preceding Oct. 7, of Israel slaughtering civilians? Why do Hamas exist in the first place?

@MCUKnight11 - I did…

I know the reception to WW 1984 was mixed to say the least but given the release date was moved up while Patty was working on something else so she had to leave that and work on the script for the sequel ASAP (and then moved back anyway) , I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt considering how well she did on the first one.

@SuperCat - Reducing Wonder Woman (and Superman) down to singular, bite-sized, nebulous symbols has seriously hurt their depictions. A big part of the reason why Batman is generally depicted so much better in media.

After WW84, that’s for the best. It’s like she took everything the first movie got right and instead of improving upon it, she just threw it in the trash.

Yeah she's out and busy with Rogue Squadron, but things are still unclear with what's going on with Gal Gadot because the way "sources" cleared up things in the middle of the strikes didn't help at all. She isn't The Rock to manipulate the truth like he did with Black Adam's profit and Gunn continuing to stay in silence about that subject isn't encouraring either.

Especially when we know now that he's picking what he likes from the DCEU to carry over to his version.

@MyCoolYoung - I'm starting to think the initial plan was to keep as much around as they could, but now they decided to start over and cut loose as much as possible. Even Peacemaker S1 won't be canon anymore

Yup. It appears in the beginning he told many people they would be safe, but did a 180. Doesn’t appear to be the greatest look though no one seems super salty about it
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/15/2024, 10:09 AM
@MyCoolYoung - ever since they announced the DCU, they never really publicly disclosed whether it was gonna be a full reboot or not.

Wouldn't be surprised if they told the people involved the same thing, and that's why no one is salty. DC may have been leaning towards partials reboot, depending on the reception to 2023's movies there was a chance they would go the other way.
