In the early morning of March 12th, 2015 I decided to write up an editorial titled "Is the Black Panther film really important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?" If you didn't read it, you're welcome to check it out here. In the article I explained why I felt as though Spider-Man joining the MCU may have disrupted the chemistry that the Marvel Cinematic Universe had. I felt as though I brought up some good points and made valid statements but some people took it the wrong way.
As I stated at the end of the article, "we don't even really know what the film was gonna be about in the first place and... we don't know what goes on at the Marvel HQ [...] and if Marvel had announced the current Phase 3 slate back in October... this article would be pointless. That states right there that I understand that Marvel has a plan with each of their films and who am I to judge? While I am not denying that I was frustrated with the way that things went down, I still understand that MARVEL HAS A PLAN.
Here's a few points by the CBM Community that are confident that Marvel has a plan:
GliderMan:
With Avengers: Infinity War being a two-part film, there's absolutley no telling what's going to happen there. What kind of a cliffhanger will it leave? How much time will last? Just because Black Panther is now being released between the two movies doesn't decrease the character's relevancy.
RextheKing:
Just to add, they have a draft of CW without Spidey's inclusion and one with his inclusion, so they'll probably play it smart and merge the best parts of them, allowing both Spidey and BP to have a prominent roles.
0megaDaGod:
"SONY needs to capitalize on Spider Man's increased popularity after Civil War more than MARVEL needs to capitalize on BP's. Them's the breaks I'm afraid.
Valid points fellas.
So yes, I understand where you all are coming from! You have lightened my concerns when it comes down to the path that Marvel will take with Black Panther. The only thing that I am still concerned about is the relevancy that Black Panther will have to the general audiences. Yes, we know who the Panther is but what about the average movie goer? He isn't The Avengers or Spider-Man, he's something new to the game. Maybe that's when I have to rely on the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and soon see how Ant-Man does to make a proper judgement.
I hope that this makes sense to all of you and I enjoy that we've indulged in this minor debate! This is what makes ComicBookMovie a great site!
You know... I was gonna go all NightWatcher V JoshWilding on you all but I had to pull back! Haha, just joking! Let's continue this in the comment section!
