BLACK PANTHER Producer Explains The Movie's Place In The Wider Marvel Cinematic Universe

Black Panther is the final MCU movie set to be released before Avengers: Infinity War but just how much does T'Challa's solo outing set up the events of that movie and where does it fit into this world?

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be released less than three months after Black Panther reaches the big screen, so common sense dictates that T'Challa's first solo adventure is going to set that up Iron Man 2 style right? Thankfully, that's not going to be the case as producer Nate Moore has explained that the movie is going to be given the freedom to stand by itself rather than setting up what's next.

Rumour has it that Black Panther will introduce the Soul Stone, of course, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to spend two hours with T'Challa dropping hints about Thanos' upcoming invasion.

"I think it’s inherently linked because of the Civil War connections and because of the Ultron connections with Klaue. So there are strings that we are playing with. But again, much like Doctor Strange, we felt this had enough storytelling that it could stand alone beyond those things. We wanted to give Ryan the freedom to tell a story that wasn’t relying on other things that were happening in the MCU. Now that doesn’t mean what happens in the film won’t have ripples in the MCU but the film itself isn’t relying on other plot points in the MCU."

It sounds like Marvel has found the right balance here just as Doctor Strange and Ant-Man did a couple of years back (the latter included a cameo from an Avenger but Black Panther isn't expected to head down that route). What do you guys think about these comments? Let us know in the usual place.

I haven't seen Creed but I've heard great things about it. Hopefully that reception will carry over to Black Panther as well.

@SupermansTrunks - Creed is very good, but didn't live up to the insane hype that was surrounding it.

I think that's a pretty smart choice. Kinda disliked it that Homecoming relied to much on previous MCU entries

Really sounds and looks like they let Ryan Coogler make his own film.

Hopefully that turns out to be a good thing. Looks like it so far.

When the MCU started, it was all so wild to think of anything more than the teases given in the after credits scenes and Easter eggs (like how good was it seeing Cap's shield in IM2?) Now that it's become so big the surprises are harder to make well, surprising; so it is heartening to hear that BP won't be about set up for IW. Why should it? The earlier movies were not just about plot points but a whole universe. My point is that it will be good if they really do wipe the slate clean after IW and effectively create a new universe all over again, so we can see A She Hulk Easter egg etc etc etc. Can't wait.

I love Serkis as Klaw... but I was still hoping for one or two brief Falcon v. Ant-Man or Dr. Strange's beer type cameos.

What does Josh mean when he said it will set things up "Iron Man 2 style"??
