Director Ryan Coogler Weighs In On The Possibility Of Shuri Suiting Up As A Female BLACK PANTHER

We know that Shuri rocks some pretty cool Panther gauntlets in the upcoming Black Panther movie and now director Ryan Coogler weighs in on the possibility of that being set up here or down the line...

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is currently doing the press rounds for the movie and he's fielding a lot of questions about where T'Challa and the world of Wakanda could go next. With many critics naming Letitia Wright's Shuri as the comic book adaptation's breakout star, the filmmaker was understandably quizzed on the possibility that she could suit up as the new Panther down the line.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like we'll get any hints in regards to that happening in this movie but it is something Coogler is interested in and is open to making a reality a little further down the line.

"We didn’t talk about it in terms of the future," Coogler admitted. "It was something I feel he was playing with [trying] to set up, but it didn’t happen.
Hopefully it does. I’m happy that there’s room to allow Shuri to grow. I wanna sit with her a little bit more." That makes sense considering the fact she's pretty young and bear in mind that her comic book counterpart only suited up because T'Challa was gravely injured and could no longer serve as the hero. So, maybe Black Panther 3 or 4 then?

We'll have to wait and see but feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Shuri is one of the best characters of the movie. Easily.

@Unites - I think she should take on the mantle. 99% of superheroes are men. It's time for women!

Don't rush anything we just met Tchalla in the MCU, there's a lot of interesting things to explore. Marvel must develop a full story arc for T'Challa in a span of 2 or 3 movies before introducing Shuri as the BP in order to please a bunch of fans

@BlindAl9 - Granted i haven't seen the movie, but it makes sense for Shuri to suit up down the line in BP 3. I mean she makes the suit in this universe, and by the time BP3 comes around T'challa would have been in Civil War, BP, Inf War, Avngrs4, BP2, and Avengers 5. That's 6 whole movies.

@Deonox - yeah you made a point there. I'm not against Shuri suiting up as BP. Indeed she did take up the mantle of Black panther and Queen of wakabda in the comics. I'm worried if they put her in the suit for example in the sequels it may feel forced

@BlindAl9 - I'm with you there, as long as you can find a good story reason to, i'll be fine with it.

Let T'Challa and Chadwick Boseman have a trilogy first, then maybe we can talk about that.

Are we sure the quote is from Coogler? Sounds like a mix-up. The way the "he" is used makes me thing it's actually a quote from Letitia talking about Coogler?

Did she ever suit up as anyone but BP? I would be down for her getting a similar but differently named costume, ala Killmonger's Golden Jaguar

Ugh...Let Black Panther not go the way of Thor.

Invent other characters with good writing and people will flock to it.

@MNLawyer - Agreed. A la, Ant-Man and Wasp.

@Zounds - I'd be ok if they co-opted the White Tiger persona for Shuri, but I'm not an avid BP comics fan.

What if they perhaps combined her and Riri Williams and gave her the Iron Heart persona? I could see Tony being impressed with her and recruiting her to be his replacement so he can retire after all the Thanos stuff is over and done with.

@aRush - that would be sick, and if she ate the herb it would fit the name really well. I don't know why people want her to take the mantle as a carbon copy of her brother, when making her the tech genius is the most interesting thing they've done with her ever. Imo. Her being black panther just seems like a carbon copy of her brother. Capitalise on her unique talents
