Djimon Hounsou Still Has BLACK PANTHER Role Desire

Despite having "a foot" in the Marvel world via Guardians of the Galaxy, Beninese-American actor Djimon Hounsou would be honored to play the King of Wakanda in a solo adaptation. Check it out!

Two-time Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou is one of many actors who have expressed interest in playing the title role in Marvel's unlikely Black Panther adaptation. And despite playing a villain, Korath the Pursuer, in Marvel's anticipated space epic Guardians of the Galaxy, Hounsou told the press during his Baggage Claim promotional run that he'd still like to play the King of Wakanda.

“It would be an honor to be T'Challa,” says Djimon Hounsou. “It would have to be done right, given the history of that character and that comic. I have a foot in the Marvel comics world now, so we'll see where they're going to take that.” Speaking about his comic book knowledge, the Fast the the Furious 7 actor says, “I never read any comic books when I was younger, I just remember one of my friends in Africa at a very young age used to carry these animated booklets with him - those were comic books, and he was passionate about them.”

Ironically, both Idris Elba and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje have either voiced interest in playing T'Challa or be considered a top contender for the role. But like Djimon Hounsou, they, too, have supporting roles in the Marvel cinematic universe via the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. In my opinion, I don't think a solo Black Panther movie will ever see the light of day. But I think he'll be introduced as a supporting character in the third Captain America movie. What do you think?
