Djimon Hounsou Still Has BLACK PANTHER Role Desire

Despite having "a foot" in the Marvel world via Guardians of the Galaxy, Beninese-American actor Djimon Hounsou would be honored to play the King of Wakanda in a solo adaptation. Check it out!

Two-time Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou is one of many actors who have expressed interest in playing the title role in Marvel's unlikely Black Panther adaptation. And despite playing a villain, Korath the Pursuer, in Marvel's anticipated space epic Guardians of the Galaxy, Hounsou told the press during his Baggage Claim promotional run that he'd still like to play the King of Wakanda.

“It would be an honor to be T'Challa,” says Djimon Hounsou. “It would have to be done right, given the history of that character and that comic. I have a foot in the Marvel comics world now, so we'll see where they're going to take that.” Speaking about his comic book knowledge, the Fast the the Furious 7 actor says, “I never read any comic books when I was younger, I just remember one of my friends in Africa at a very young age used to carry these animated booklets with him - those were comic books, and he was passionate about them.”

Ironically, both Idris Elba and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje have either voiced interest in playing T'Challa or be considered a top contender for the role. But like Djimon Hounsou, they, too, have supporting roles in the Marvel cinematic universe via the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. In my opinion, I don't think a solo Black Panther movie will ever see the light of day. But I think he'll be introduced as a supporting character in the third Captain America movie. What do you think?

As much as i'd love him to take the role....no1 choice....it's very unlikely Marvel would choose him if he's now in GOTG

Would be a chance if his appearance wasn't easily recognisable in GOTG.....cgi alien etc...however looking at the pic posted by DCMarvelFreshman, it's clearly him in costume. Would cause confusion for audiences.

if Black Panther becomes another black supporting character then thats it. Black Panther needs a solo movie like everyone else.

I honestly think that a Black Panther movie is not as difficult as everyone thinks.

No CGI would be necessary like it was to make Asgard in Thor because Wakanda exists for real (sort of).

I still say Black Panther will have some sort of role in Age of Ultron simply cause Ultron upgrades his armor and seeing as how adimantium can't be referenced, let alone used. I think Ultron will go to Wakanda for vibranium to upgrade his armor and it's said to be a global movie. Makes too much sense not to happen. It could potentially lead into a Black Panther movie.

Damn, I didn't think he would look that! recognisable in Guardians.

Guys, that picture was 13 days into development. I'm sure it will look much better in the finish product.

He seems too tall and long to be Panther. He has the moves for it (as seen in never back down, or whatever fight movie he was the trainer in), but he looks like someone you would see in Aeon Flux... Thats how long he looks to me. But I would choose him over Idris. Idris seems more fit for a "powerhouse" type of character.

Hounsou would make a great T'Chaka in the opening sequence, similar to Russell Crowe's Jor El in Man of Steele. Not sure about how well he would play a live action T'Challa at this point.

@MarvelPsycho: Exactly. Ultron being the villain pretty much says that Black Panther or at least Wakanda has some sort of role in AOU.

Agreed my brotha! Black Panther MUST have a solo film. I wouldn't mind seeing a new actor play in a war machine spin-off at some point in the future as well. Why don't they just cast Adris from Leverage? The guy really wants to play the role...smh :(

F%ck Will Smith. He isn't capable of playing some one as great as Black Panther.

Perhaps instead of fancasting American actors for BP we can hope for someone who is actually African?

Have they mentioned vibranium at all in the MCU yet? I don't remember...

He is a bit old for the role, but I think he can still pull it off. Regardless, I hope they find someone who is actually African to play the role. Not African American, but full African! It is time for Hollywood to start bringing real black heroes to the big screen rather than trying to recreate white characters by casting black actors. Blade was pretty darn successful, and with the right script and director, they can make a Black Panther movie that will appeal to everyone! The story is awesome! Sadly, Hollywood seems to think that putting a black man in the lead of a movie means they need to focus on bringing in the black audience. That is a huge mistake!

I could see it if he were a few years younger. Not sure about a BP solo film. I think he should be introduced in the second Avengers movie similar to the animated version on Netflix. That'd be cool. Cause honestly.. who's he gonna fight in a solo movie? Man-ape? Seriously.

I believe Marvel is working on a BP movie. They hired someone to write the script in 2011 and we've heard from different people about playing charactes from BP stores(ex. Killmonger)

Was there not like a nod to Wakanda in IM2 or something? I remember there being a map of Africa with like a circled city or some shit. Am I imagining this?

"But I think he'll be introduced as a supporting character in the third Captain America movie."

This is what I think will happen to, I just dont see a "Black Panther" film on the horizon, but I can see a CAP film where he's the central character/hero/villian with the plot being how they deal with him.

If a film ever is greenlit into production, they'll have to be extremely careful with it. It's a potential pr disaster.

And btw I have always wanted him as Namor even before he was a batman fancast. Ask Hugostrange

Of all the characters Marvel has, I think the Black Panther is most deserving of his own film.. His story is begging for it to be adapted..
