Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh is set to take the lead role in a new film for Apple TV+. Described as a "sci-fi courtroom drama," Dolly is based on Elizabeth Bear’s short story of the same name. Apple Studios is said to have acquired the property after a competitive bidding war.
The Fighting With My Family star will play a robotic “companion doll” who "kills its owner and then shocks the world by claiming that she is not guilty and asking for a lawyer."
Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water) and Drew Pearce (Hotel Artemis) have been enlisted to write the script, but the project has yet to be officially greenlit, and no director is attached. Apple Studios will produce along with Pearce through Point of No Return Films. Pugh and Taylor will executive produce.
This one certainly sounds... interesting!
Pugh is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood following her acclaimed performances in the likes of Little Women and Midsommar. She will make her MCU debut as Yelena Belova in Cate Shortland's Black Widow movie this May, and is expected to take over the mantle from Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff going forward.
