5 Characters Most Likely To Die In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
At least one character inevitably won't make it out of Captain America: Civil War alive, but which of them is most likely to meet their maker this May? Well, these are the heroes you should be worrying about...
If there's one thing which never lasts in comic books, it's death. Considering the fact that Agent Coulson was back little more than a year after being murdered by Loki in The Avengers, the same can quite possibly said for comic book movies too! However, with so much at stake in Captain America: Civil War, you can bet your life that not every member of Earth's Mightiest Hero is making out of that one alive (even if they eventually return).
Looking at the Civil War comic book, you may think you already know which fan-favourite character isn't going to make it to that all important after-credits scene still breathing, but there are a surprising number of possibilities as to who is going to meet their maker in Captain America: Civil War.
Now, it goes without saying that not every hero listed here will die, but I'd say there's a very strong chance that at least one of those I've selected will. Some names you may be expected, and others will surprise you, but these are the five characters from Marvel's first Phase 3 release who definitely need to watch their back this May. To get started and see who comes in at #1, remember that all you have to do is simply click on the NEXT button.
Honourable Mention: War Machine
The trailers for Captain America: Civil War seemingly reveal that War Machine dies after being shot out of the sky by Bucky, but I'm not buying that for a second. To reveal such a massive plot twist would rob the actual moment of any real significance, and at best I would guess that Rhodey is badly injured (similar to how Happy Hogan was left comatose in the Civil War comic book's tie-in issues).
However, I had to at least mention War Machine here due to the fact that it's still entirely possible he succumbs to his wounds or that Marvel just don't deem him important enough to NOT spoil his death in the marketing materials for the movie. For now, we'll just have to wait and see!
5. Bucky
Let me make one thing clear; I don't want Bucky to die! In an ideal world, the former Winter Soldier will wield the shield for at least a short period of time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but seeing as this version of the character is clearly wanted by both the government and half of The Avengers, him serving as Captain America may never be a legit possibility in a real world setting.
Killing off Bucky would also come as a shock to those of us expecting Marvel to follow the comics, and while it would no doubt be controversial, it could very well serve as a way of putting Steve Rogers on a very different path in Phase 3 as he once again finds himself without Bucky.
4. Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr. is costing Marvel an awful lot of money these days, and with so many new franchises on the horizon, they could be ready to part ways with the actor who is seemingly unwilling to commit to another Iron Man movie for them.
Don't get me wrong, I think they'll bring him back for Avengers: Infinity War, but Tony Stark dying would come as a very unexpected twist to fans convinced that it's Captain America whose head is on the chopping block. Whether he's taken out by The Winter Soldier or gunned down by Crossbones, I'd say that there's at least a slim chance the Russo Brothers leave all of our jaws on the floor this May by taking out the hero who started it all.
3. The Vision
The Vision is going to die. Sure, there's a chance that it won't end up happening in Captain America: Civil War, but with Thanos inevitably set to get his hands on a completed Infinity Gauntlet a few years from now, there's no way that Mind Stone is staying on this hero's forehead for much longer!
Having The Vision fall here would open the door to an appearance from The Mad Titan in the after-credits scene, and while I can't deny that it would be a shame to lose The Vision so soon, he is an android and could very well be brought back somewhere down the line. If he is going to go here, then an out of control Scarlet Witch (a la Avengers Disassembled) should be responsible.
2. Hawkeye
Clint Barton only narrowly escaped death in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so wouldn't it be interesting to see him fail to do so a second time after coming out of "retirement" to get involved in this coflict? If theories that that's Quicksilver in the yellow tank are correct, a brainwashed version of the speedster killing Hawkeye would be a shocking moment sure to stick with fans for a long time to come.
Plus, with the MCU expanding with powerful heroes like Black Panther, Captain Marve, and Doctor Strange, do Earth's Mightiest Heroes really need an archer when the time comes to take on Thanos? I think not, so don't be too surprised to see him fire his final arrow here.
1. Captain America
I've mentioned Steve Rogers a fair few times in this list, and let's face it, there's a very good chance he will indeed die in Captain America: Civil War. While a big part of me can't help but feel like he'll end up in that prison Iron Man is standing in at one point (perhaps the world will be made to think he's dead when in reality a badly injured Steve is hidden away there), not adapting such an iconic part of this story would be a disappointing decision by Marvel.
Whether it's Bucky, Falcon, or even Agent 13 who end up wielding his shield, this movie taking Captain America off the table would be a great way to shake up Phase 3 from the very start and would blow the minds of non-fans!
