The Marvel Cinematic Universe's two heavy-hitters sat out the superhero slugfest in Captain America: Civil War and for good reason. The inclusion of just one of the Avenger's powerful titans would have heavily skewed odds in one team's favor and if each had supported opposing sides, the two would most certainly have sought one another out on the battlefield and the force of their blows would have likely incapacitated everyone else involved.
Speaking to Fandango, Taika Waititi, who will direct both Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok, stated that he thinks Thor would have considered two options if he was around for Cap and Iron Man's disagreement over the Sokovia Accords. "We’ve talked a little bit about this. Personally, I feel Thor would have started his own team. He wouldn’t have liked the idea of those teams. But, even though Thor is from outer space and he lives in a palace, part of me likes to think he would side with Cap. I would side with Cap purely because I don’t trust billionaires."
