On Whether The Movie Universe Effected The First Avenger:

STEPHEN McFEELY: Yeah, but it was never intrusive. You're going to need a MacGuffin, so if it's related to the Marvel Universe, that's fine by us. We already had a villain, so if we wanted to also weave in Howard Stark it wasn't that hard. Someone has to fill some of these beats.

CHRISTOPHER MARKUS: We probably had the easiest jobs in terms of interweaving the universe of Marvel movies, because we're chronologically first. We don't have to pick up the threads from the other films.

On Whether They're Working On A Sequel:

McFEELY: Yes!

On Whether They Know Whether It Will Focus On WWII Adventures Or The Present Day:

MARKUS: We're very early, still. This is the fun part — when we can say, "Hey, we can do this!" and everyone says, "Yeah!" No one says anything negative at this point in the process. We have a million great ideas and haven't thrown any of them out yet. That being said, it's sort of a weirdly huge opportunity for storytelling in that you know modern Cap through the Avengers at that point, and just by the nature of what we were talking about before, there's going to be a lot of his World War II history we haven't shown. We're going to have two entire timelines to play with.

McFEELY: I wonder if the reaction to ["The First Avenger"] will steer us in some way. First, if it does well... Then, if it does well and people embrace the World War II aspect of it, maybe there's pressure to return there in a large way. But if they don't embrace that aspect and just love Chris Evans as Steve, maybe there's less pressure to do that — you can just keep him in the Avengers universe.

On How All Of The Present Day Solo Movies Will Work Alongside Each Other:

MARKUS: It's weirdly the same opportunity that the Marvel comic book guys have been having the last however-many years. All of those Avengers characters have solo comic books. You have to say "Captain America was on vacation the day when that solo adventure happened," or explain why Iron Man didn't call all of his super-powered friends when he was fighting that guy. It's a bizarre problem to have... It's not really a problem, actually. [Laughs]

McFEELY: I think ["Iron Man 3" director] Shane Black is the one with the first burden. He's the one who has to handle the first post-"Avengers" movie.

Starring Chris Evans as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Captain America: The First Avenger will be released in 3D on July 22.

WINTER SOLDIER!!!!

Actually I read an early outline of the sequel. Cap moves up North to take advantage of better health care. He slaps a "C" on his head, and instead of a star on his chest, he's got a maple leaf...... his villain is a rogue Moose.

It's a good sign that they're already working on a sequel...they haven't done that yet with Thor, I wonder why?

I'm glad to hear that the structure of this first Cap film leaves open some time in WWII for more adventures. I would think a storyline that involves both WWII and present day would be the way they end up going with the sequel. (Such as Cap fighting Baron Heinrich Zemo in the 40's, and his descendant Helmet Zemo carrying on his plans in the present.)

As for the "why didn't they call in the other Avengers?" problem, I don't think it really exists. You generally expect most cops in an action film to work alone (or with their partner) and not call in the SWAT team at every opportunity, despite that not being the way it would really work. James Bond doesn't call in more agents to take down his villains. I'm sure Cap will have his own support (Agent Carter, perhaps the Falcon, etc.) considering the Worldwide scope of the Avengers, I don't think you have to explain why Thor isn't right there to help the moment things get rough.

Although, how are they gonna do the ice freezing thing so, if it happens in the film, how can there be time to do another war film?

Surely it wont be a big leap in time to the freeze then another leap to the present?

It would be really cool to have a Winter Soldier sequel with flashbacks.

Nice! I think they should do a modern day sequel with Winter Soldier as the antagonist along with somebody else. Maybe WWII flashbacks

Damn, I'm 99% sure TFA will be awesome. Very good news they're already thinking about the sequence.

I think there are sooo many good villains and stories to be seen at the present day... They could make a movie about the current wars (black hawk down style, with a true villain) and how there's no black/white anymore. Could be a action flick but also something that makes you think when it ends.

That would give us a new sight of steve rogers.

The Gen Pop would care if you gave them a good, continuous storyline to follow. The Thor sequel is easy, He goes back to Asgard and faces something there, that is why he isn't around. If Fox wasn't involved, you have Cap meet Wolverine and tell him about the WW2 adventures they had together, shocked that Logan doesn't remember them, but again, Foxfail. Do we need another stand alone Iron Man Movie? Why can't they expand the Avengers? Or have Tony go on a recruiting trip and run into Black Panther or who knows who else. I'm over the stand alone's myself, they should all be done under the Avengers banner now. Too bad they can't use Mutants. Lead us into the world with Civil War eventually.

@ ZeroEthic: They would most likely be flash backs of the war. There is suppose to be a montage of Cap and the Howling Commandos fighting through the war. The film is suppose to take place over the course of 4-5 years of war time, so not including the origin and child hood portion, which would be about 20 to 23 years.

The sequel will definitely focus on the Zemos. That way the general public that liked the first movie will get their fix of WW2 with Heinrich Zemo in a flashback, and the general public that liked seeing him in The Avengers will get their fix of the modern day with Helmut Zemo.

People, if they update Iron Man's armor every hour he's on screen, and they are giving CAP a few different costumes in this movie, they will update it for the avengers.

Cap 2 should be interesting, I'm hoping for a lot of epsionage style stuff with Steve working alongside S.H.I.E.L.D or whatever, and I'd love to see Baron Zemo or Crossbones in the sequel

I don't know why they can't just have the next Cap movie take place in both timelines. They could make the villain Zemo and show how he and Cap were enemies during the war in flashback, then show the current crisis in the modern times. They do that all the time in Cap comics with the flashbacks.

Thamessenger, thanks for that info. Where did you find out that TFA is supposed to cover 4 or 5 years of the war? Wherever it comes from, I hope it's true. Kind of hard to explain that Cap is a "war hero" and "inspirational leader" who inspires awe in the other Avengers, if the movie shows him getting frozen his first time out!
