Captain America Shield Reveal Is On Most Paused Movie Moments List

You remeber that little in joke in Iron Man 2 in which a replica of Captain America's shield is used to prop up Tony Stark's work bench? Well, it's one of the top 10 most paused moments in movies! Click for the full list..

Interesting bit of trivia for a slow Monday here. Despite being a jokey reference to Captain America's iconic shield, when Tony Stark uses a plastic replica of it to shove underneath a loose fitting pipe in Iron Man 2 many fans thought that it was actually supposed to be the real shield itself. This, unsurprisingly, led to many pause buttons being hit on dvd/blu ray players across the world.

The shield scene clocks in at number 7 on the most paused list. Also unsurprising, the majority of moments on the list are of the nekkid lady variety, with Sharon Stone's infamous "beaver shot" getting the number 1 spot. There is also the Storm Trooper head bang in Star Wars, the Pacman scene in Tron as well as a couple of supposed sexual references in 2 animated films; The Lion King and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

The Top Ten Most-Paused Movie Moments:
1. Sharon Stone crossing her legs - Basic Instinct (1992) - 31 %
2. Jennifer Lopez naked rear - The Back-Up Plan (2010) - 16%
3. Stormtrooper bangs his head - Star Wars - Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) - 15%
4. Jamie Lee Curtis flash - Trading Places (1983) - 8%
5. Jessica Rabbit goes commando - Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) - 6%
6. Brad Pitt flashes behind doctor in hospital - Fight Club (1999) - 5%
7. Captain America's shield appears on desk - Iron Man 2 (2010) - 4%
8. Dust spells out 'SEX' - The Lion King(in actuality it spelled out "S.F.X". A nod to the effects team that worked on the film) (1994) - 3%
9. Pacman cameo - Tron (1982) -2%
10. Nicole Kidman rear-end flash - Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - 1%
Other - 9 %

I certainly remember all the fans going berserk over the "dissected shield" in Iron Man 2. Like they didn't take the time to think, "Hey, shouldn't the real shield be frozen with Cap's body?" or, "Hey, since the real shield is with Cap's body, maybe this shield was just some kind of prototype that Howard Stark was working on."

Fans are so silly.

anyway, i'm kind of surprised that the "ghost" floating outside the skyscraper in Three Men and a Baby isn't on this list. Or the Munchkin hanging from a tree in the background in Wizard of Oz, who supposedly killed himself during filming.

I'm suprized the swimming pool scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High didn't get a nod. Almost every VHS rental was worn out at that spot from pausing to look at boobs.

When was the stormtrooper headbanging? Didn't see that.

I'm impressed because aside from The Back Up Plan, it's the only movie on the list in the past 12 years. TBH the fact that JLo's ass is number 2 is ridiculous.

i confirm TyrannicalOverlord's comment...what about Phoebe Cates from "Fast Times"?????
GarthRanzz

Yeah this list isn't right. Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High has to be number 1. The topless scene in Return of the Jedi should be on here too!

I'd have to agree, this list can't be legit. Pheobe Cates would have to be on that list. And I can't even imagine that many people even WATCHED "The Back-Up Plan". I would think the priest's erection in "The Little Mermaid" would be on this list.

As for the Jessica Rabbit moment, it happens as they're leaving Toon Town in a hurry and she's thrown from Benny the Cab as his tires have been "dipped". She flies out with her legs spread and there you see her peek-a-boo. In the re-release of the movie they have painted white panties on Mrs. Rabbit.

@ Intruder

well i wasn't saying the Munchkin in Wizard of Oz actually hung himself, or that it was an actual ghost in 3 Men and a Baby. But that was the rumor, and i'm sure that many VCR's were paused back then! :)

I never once paused IM2 at that part - but I did pause the FIRST Iron Man film when Cap's shield is seen on a table in the background there, a few times... That has to be what they're talking about.
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 2/28/2011, 12:53 PM
@Joker08

I agree that they may be talking about the first Iron Man movie. The shield in IM2 wasn't very pause-worthy simply because it's appearance was quite blatant in the second film.
AvariForlorn
AvariForlorn - 2/28/2011, 1:29 PM
It was a really stupid scene. I didn't laugh. I wanted an actual reference to Cap, not some blatant and silly joke that wasted screen time.
Matador

Tks Marvel72 - never seen paid attention to that scene funny shit.
loganoneil
loganoneil - 2/28/2011, 2:04 PM
I think the list only refers to the 'Did I really just see that?!' stuff, otherwise I'd agree - Phoebe Cates would be #1 on the list!
GoddamnBatman
GoddamnBatman - 2/28/2011, 3:02 PM
Captain's shield on desk is from IM1, I missed it the first time and paused with bluray. Also for those who don't know, Cap is seen in the alternate opening for Incredible Hulk(2008) very pause worthy as he is only visable for the last two seconds frozen with his shield
Cloverfield has a few pause worthy moments (such as split second shot of Kong and the thing falling in the ocean like 10 seconds before the movie ends)
TayDee
TayDee - 2/28/2011, 5:13 PM
I agree with Joker, I never paused the scene in iron man 2 because they shown it openly whereas in iron man 1 you had to look close to find it.
Elayis
Elayis - 2/28/2011, 7:44 PM
Really? It even ranked up there with nude scenes? WTF?!

To me, sure, the scene was kinda funny (in a very, very, boring and predictable way), but it wasn't stand-out cool or anything. The bit in Hulk was far better.

To me, that doesn't even look like Cap's shield. It's just bits of metal, not a disc.
