Chris Evans Reflects On Filming Captain America, the Costume and More!

The leading actor behind Steve Rogers in Marvel & Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans speaks on the 40s-era environments, & more! Check it out!

In a recent issue of USA Weekend, which the leading stars of Marvel's upcoming films this year covered, actors Chris Evans & Chris Hemsworth discuss the many aspects of their pivotal roles. With a sneak peek courtesy of the Chris Evans Blog, read below what Evans had to say regarding the experience & set-environment of Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger.

Firstly speaking on the scene involving jumping in water to stop an escaping enemy on a submarine, Evans says:
“It’s a pretty cool-looking thing actually, he takes off and my character runs and dives in and swims after him and grabs the submarine and punches it. It’s this whole underwater thing, and as I was reading it, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never done a scene underwater. This is crazy!’ And it was. It was like five days in this giant tank underwater. They yell ‘Cut!,’ you swim over to a guy with a respirator and a tank, and you breathe. Then you take it out and he yells again. It was just a crazy thing but it was fun.”

On director Joe Johnston's craft of a bringing 40s-era sets to life, Evans says:
“That’s one of the appeals to me, I think that’s going to be a good selling point for the film. Joe is so good at creating that world. You’d walk on set and you’re like, ‘Man, I can’t believe where I am right now. This is wild.’”

On donning the suit and it's uncomforting fit, Evans says:
“I didn’t breathe, no, I don’t know if they washed it. It was this type of canvas – there were leather straps. It was a lot of layers and pieces and very cumbersome. Every morning you’d put it on and you’d have a little conniption fit in your trailer where you were just like, ‘Arrrgh!’ and then you’d just surrender and say, ‘OK, let’s go make a f#@king movie.’”

After saying the four-letter curse word, Evans corrected himself:
“I shouldn’t be swearing. Captain America shouldn’t swear. But I get caught with these interviews and I start dropping f-bombs! This is why I can’t do interviews!”

While theres much more in the magazine, available in stores April 15-17, presumingly more with Chris Hemsworth on THOR, look for that film in theaters May 6. And Captain America: The First Avenger July 22, in 3D!

I don't get all the 'small' comments about Chris Evans. He looks pretty built up!

He can't help being shorter than Hemsworth - which he should be!

Well, if Evans is going to be here, I hope they at least have a throw-off during a battle in The Avengers to make it fun. They could keep score like Legolas and Gimli.

Lasers? UFO's? No WW2 feel? Worst movie ever? explain yourself first? And good job editing your comment from WO2 to WW2.

EvilEye - wow man, nice you've already seen the movie to have such a strong opinion, can I borrow your deLorean?

"It doesn't even has a WW2 feel to it" has such a certainty, doesn't it? And that was no ufo, looked more like a a large bomber prototype.

I also guess you trolled because we don't know what powers those blue weapons (the hydra army is using those too), maybe the tesseract? That's the fantastic part, bro.

Ppl take these movies too seriously.
