It seems that Joe Joshnston won't be returning to direct the follow up to Captain America: The First Avenger. According to Vulture, Marvel have narrowed the field to three possible choices..
Insiders tell us that a field of ten directors has been whittled to just three for the follow-up to last summer's hit: George Nolfi, the writer-director of The Adjustment Bureau; F. Gary Gray, best known for directing The Italian Job; and, naturally … Community's Anthony and Joseph Russo?
Apparently the Russo Brothers made the cut due to Kevin Feige getting on well with them in their series of meetings. Sources tell Vulture that Feige is
"a vibe guy", adding: “
He likes to see if he gets along with people before he’ll decide about spending the next two years with them. And apparently, they hit it off with Kevin in the room.”. They seem like an unusual choice for this type of movie given that they have won Emmys for their comedy chops with
Community, but many directors have made the genre switch successfully in the past. As for the other two, Gray also directed the mediocre
Law Abiding Citizen to go along with the mediocre
Italian Job. Although Nolfi only has one directing credit under his belt,
The Adjustment Bureau is a much better effort. Of course nothing is set in stone (just ask Patty Jenkins how quickly things can change at Marvel!) but all going to plan, meeting with all three candidates are being scheduled for early next month, with a decision possibly being made as early as mid-April.
