Will Cobie Smulders Be Returning As 'Maria Hill' In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR?

The How I Met Your Mother actress is reportedly making her fourth big-screen appearance as Maria Hill, Nick Fury's right-hand woman, somehow in Captain America's third "solo" outing. Check it out!

It appears that another familiar face will be returning in Captain America: Civil War, which will launch "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and divide many superheroes under two leaders, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr). According to questionable sources of Spanish sites Cinemex and elmulticine, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will also be choosing sides in the highly-anticipated threequel, following her appearance next year in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though no other reliable sources are picking up on the cast addition, it's very likely for the character to have a minor role. Of course, we should still consider this a rumor.

UPDATE: It was just brought to our attention (via CBM user Dromeus) that Cobie Smulders had announced late last month that she and her husband are expecting. Therefore, the Canadian actress' inclusion in Captain America: Civil War, or just the nature of her role, may be determined by the stage of her pregnancy when the movie starts shooting in Altanta, Georgia, in April.

In the 2006 Civil War comic book miniseries, Maria Hill was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Deputy Director, and she had turned on Captain America and all those who did not "obey the will of the American people" and comply with the Superhuman Registration Act. Though S.H.I.E.L.D. has been disbanded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Maria Hill as a new loyal employee of Iron Man's, or rather his company Stark Industries. Therefore, she may still adaptly side with Mr. Tony Stark and the U.S. Government when the Superhuman Registration Act is passed into law at some point in Captain America: Civil War. If so, hopefully we will finally get to see Cobie Smulders portray Maria Hill as the bitchy character we all love to hate from the comics. What do you think?

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie & Daniel Brühl, with appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson expected. The film opens May 6, 2016.

Had no doubt! I call a lot of surprising cameo's in this film too!

And I think we know whose side she's gonna join... It was foreshadowed at the end of The Winter Soldier.

I like more this María Hill than the one from the comics.
Nick Fury can trust her and she's helpful like in TWS

The real question is when the hell are they going to stop lying to everyone about Coulson. You can't tell me that him and Cap didn't almost run into each other or that another agent while talking to Cap didn't almos let Coulson's name slip. That's honestly irking me.

I don't think its a foregone conclusion that Hill will side with Tony. After seeing a massive government agency turn on Cap in The Winter Soldier, would she really do the exact same thing to him in Civil War? Kind of doubt it.

If anything, she'll be conflicted because she's now working for Stark, but she also witnessed how Cap was in the right when SHIELD/HYDRA turned on him. Awesome drama.

Only high level agents knew Coulson is alive and I think they must be good at hidinng secrets

She'd side with Pro-registration. I do hope that she has a bit bigger part though.

I'd love it if a version of the Maria Hill vs Cap scene is included.

I kind of expected Sitwell to at least try to use that against Steve at some point. Does Black Widow know about Coulson?

Never really bought her as Maria Hill. But eh, she gets the job done for what she's working with.

But yeah, this and BvS are literally dueling each other out for the best "collaborated team of solo heroes" for 2016. It's going to be a breath taking year. I'm just wondering if BvS's March release will hinder or aid it in making loads of cash?

@0megaDaGod Yep, I can't wait to see how the Russo brothers handle all the conflicted alliances. As long as they manage to make both sides sympathetic, yet flawed in their own way, then it'll already be stronger and more interesting than the comic storyline. I'm honestly not sure whether I'm looking forward to Age of Ultron more or Civil War!

she seems more anti-establishment in the mcu than the comics.
she doesn't care for stark, and helped rogers and co. escape From shield. well "hydra" shield, but still. civil war will be very astray from the comics anyway. why not just turn hill into captain marvel. that seems cool. cool to me, anyway. GA already knows her, avengers would be mind blown, and all the 47 carol danvers fans can go Suck it!

@omarvl

I'm going with batman vs Superman to be the champ between the 2.
I mean it's 3 superheroes ppl have been waiting decades to see onscreen together for the first time.

Not to say that civil war will also be another billion dollar hit, but I just think Dawn of Justice will still make a little more than it

It seems a little out of character for the MCU Mariah to side with Tony.. but I'm excited to see her become more like the comics!

Cap vs Black Panther is going to be epic
Cap vs Iron Man will probably open on par with batman vs superman
Superheroes vs superheroes would cool to see too

I don't get why people are so opposed to having Pepper show up in Civil War.

I imagine people would've said the exact same thing about The Avengers. "No way, having Pepper there will take valuable screentime away from the rest of the heroes!"

Well, her presence in the movie was directly responsible for one of the most emotional scenes, when Tony is trying to call her as he goes into the wormhole. Who's to say something like that won't happen in Civil War?

I can see her joining Cap's team.
