Will Cobie Smulders Be Returning As 'Maria Hill' In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR?
The How I Met Your Mother actress is reportedly making her fourth big-screen appearance as Maria Hill, Nick Fury's right-hand woman, somehow in Captain America's third "solo" outing. Check it out!
It appears that another familiar face will be returning in Captain America: Civil War, which will launch "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and divide many superheroes under two leaders, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr). According to questionable sources of Spanish sites Cinemex and elmulticine, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will also be choosing sides in the highly-anticipated threequel, following her appearance next year in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though no other reliable sources are picking up on the cast addition, it's very likely for the character to have a minor role. Of course, we should still consider this a rumor.
UPDATE: It was just brought to our attention (via CBM user Dromeus) that Cobie Smulders had announced late last month that she and her husband are expecting. Therefore, the Canadian actress' inclusion in Captain America: Civil War, or just the nature of her role, may be determined by the stage of her pregnancy when the movie starts shooting in Altanta, Georgia, in April.
In the 2006 Civil War comic book miniseries, Maria Hill was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Deputy Director, and she had turned on Captain America and all those who did not "obey the will of the American people" and comply with the Superhuman Registration Act. Though S.H.I.E.L.D. has been disbanded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Maria Hill as a new loyal employee of Iron Man's, or rather his company Stark Industries. Therefore, she may still adaptly side with Mr. Tony Stark and the U.S. Government when the Superhuman Registration Act is passed into law at some point in Captain America: Civil War. If so, hopefully we will finally get to see Cobie Smulders portray Maria Hill as the bitchy character we all love to hate from the comics. What do you think?
Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie & Daniel Brühl, with appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson expected. The film opens May 6, 2016.
