CAPTAIN MARVEL Star Samuel L. Jackson Is Hoping To Fill Out More Of Nick Fury's Missing History In The MCU

In a new interview, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel star Samuel L. Jackson talks about his desire to continue exploring Nick Fury's past and seemingly alludes to an appearance in Black Widow...

We'll learn more about Nick Fury's past (and presumably how he lost his eye) in Captain Marvel, but there are still a lot of gaps that need to be filled in. For example, what was he up to after becoming Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the years before he met Iron Man? And remeber when he went off on those secret missions after the spy organisation fell?

Well, during a recent interview, MCU veteran Samuel L. Jackson talked about his desire to continue fleshing out Fury's past and it sounds like he's interested in being part of Black Widow's origin story.

"Part of his service record and also the fact that he was a spy for a while," the actor explains. "Where was he, what was he doing, how did he meet this particular person?... He met Natasha through the whole spy thing, I’d like to explore that a bit. I’d also like to know what he was doing after Winter Soldier when they said go to Europe and find out what’s going on."

Assuming that we're going to see the moment Black Widow was recruited by Nick Fury and Hawkeye in her solo movie, it would definitely make sense for him to return and assign her the job of keeping an eye on Tony Stark (which would lead to her introduction in Iron Man 2).

We'll have to wait and see, but let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

Fill out more about Nick Fury’s missing eye?

@RolandD - I think in Winter Soldier he said "Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye..."

I'm thinking it's a Skrull or Hydra member within the early days of SHIELD or like @Scarilian said, the cat.

@RolandD - They could be trolling us with the images so far. His eye has bandages on it but maybe he has already lost it and they are hiding it.

@LaserKing - Exactly what I was thinking. Remember how they hid Thor's eye-patch in the advertising for Raganok!

@TyrantBossMedia - David Hasslehoff, obviously.

Also, no. Battlescars was a horrible mini and should not, under any circumstance, be brought up again.

I love that Sam likes playing the character and wants to keep coming back.

There just isn't room. With FF and X-Men joining on top of the already busy slate these movies are going to be like planes all backup up on the runway at O'Hare in a blizzard.

@CplHicks - the first FF should take place in the 60s and Nick Fury should be an 18 year old intern at shield! I would love them to de-age him even more hahaha

Just plonk him into Widow.

"when they said go to Europe and find out what’s going on."
I don't remember that line but surely it could be something to do with Far From Home or Civil War.

@Nebula -
Sounds like a line they would say at the end of Endgame - in order to tease Spider-man Far From Home.

@Nebula - its said in the end of Winter Soldier if I remember correctly.

They should adapt the Secret War story from 2004. It shows how connected he was to everyone/how everyone knew him even from the shadows, which was cool.

China Box Office Tracking: Captain Marvel beat Homecoming(+76%), The Wasp(+52%), Black Panther(+43%), Civil War(+35%) and any other MCU titles but Infinity War in advance ticket sale at the same point. A expectation of $85-95M on 3-day opening is realistic.

And yes, there is a strong possibility for Carol to make more. Captain Marvel is also higher than Venom, which made $110.2M on 3-day opening, in advance ticket sale at the same point. In terms of superhero films, Carol is only behind Thanos in Chinese pre-sale.

I like not knowing about Nick Fury. It adds to the mystic of the character. Sometimes you just do not know to need more.

@LaserKing - Agreed. The mystery aspect of a lot of these genre characters is what helps keep them interesting imo. We don't need a detailed origin for everyone. If often spoils the expectations we've set up in our own minds.

Just look at how prequelitis has ruined the backstories of many characters. Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Prometheus etc. Over-explaining how we got to this point in the story often kills the mystery that make us like the characters in the first place.

I'm fine with not getting every little backstory of Fury, cradle to grave.

@Feralwookiee - Come on. Boba Fett was never a good character.

@Reeds2Much - I'm not necessarily saying he was a "good" character, but his mystery is what made him INTERESTING. Explaining away that mystery ruins what made us interested in him in the first place imo.
