Here's Why CAPTAIN MARVEL Is Bringing Back So Many Familiar Faces To The MCU

It was recently confirmed that Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Ronan the Accuser, and Korath will all be making an appearance in Captain Marvel and now Kevin Feige has explained why they'll be showing up there.

The cast of Captain Marvel is nothing short of incredible but one of the most exciting things about the Brie Larson led release will be seeing the return of characters like Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), and Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou).

Seeing as the Marvel Comics adaptation is set during the 1990s, it makes sense that we'll see younger versions of familiar faces and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now revealed why that is.

"It was the backstory of those characters crossing over into Kree mythology, and Kree lore, that just made it made it work," he explains referring to Ronan's history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "And I always think it’s fun to see, most obviously with Fury in Captain Marvel, but also to a certain extent you’ll see with Ronan and Korath, characters the way they were before they became the icons that you have seen in other films. And it’s just fun to see people in different environments."

With that in mind, there's a very good chance that Captain Marvel will show us how Nick Fury lost his eye and why Ronan decided to ultimately align himself with Thanos to try and destroy Xandar.

@TheRealTomServo - i think the "why" they were asking is "why bother bringing back dead chars".

I liked ronan, great actor and menacing....until they danced off and shot him. It will be good if they did him justice as his character is vital to captain marvel's origin.

I hope they have Ronan kick some serious ass. I loved the way he just tossed Drax around without seeming to put much thought or effort into it!

I just hope when they show the Skrulls in phase 4, they use Coulson.

I went from not caring for this film at all to now saying I'm really looking forward to it. Ben Mendelsohn is one of my favorite actors, plus we get to see some of the characters who haven't been important since Phase 1 or early in Phase 2 again.

I hope they don’t show why Fury lost his eye, or at least don’t make it some huge part of a larger plot like Prof. X in First Class. Making a big deal about something automatically because the fans make a big deal out of it can backfire.
