CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Skip Netflix And Stream Exclusively On Disney+ After Its Theatrical Run

During Disney's earnings call, CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Studios film to skip Netflix and instead release exclusively on Disney+ following its theatrical run.

Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Studios film to premiere exclusively on Disney+. While we figured this to be the case since it was announced back in August 2017 that Disney would be ending its contract with Netflix, the House of Mouse made it official during its recent earnings call.

Disney did not reveal when exactly Captain Marvel would premiere on the streaming service as it only hits theaters next month on March 8.

Marvel films were typically added to Netflix seven or eight months after the start of their theatrical run. Assuming Disney follows that same schedule with its own service, it would put Captain Marvel on Disney+ in October or November.

Disney has maintained a late 2019 launch window for Disney+ but has not provided a specific date. A demo of the Disney+ app is scheduled for April 11 which should provide further details and hopefully more specifics regarding its launch date and pricing.

One thing Bob Iger did confirm is that the company has no plans to adjust the theatrical release window of its movies to get them on Disney+ any sooner. Additionally, the CEO revealed that "a number of creative engines across our company" are "dedicating their time and talents to develop content" for the service. This includes talent at Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel, as well as National Geographic.

While Captain Marvel will mark the official end of new Marvel films on Netflix, it's unclear what will happen to current MCU films on the service. Netflix currently offers subscribers access to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019.

Disney+ is going to be great, I've got my first kid on the way too, so I can see it pleasing both me and the baba.

I'm in the UK and I don't get Avengers: Infinity War on my Netflix... What's up with that?

@N0rrinRadical - Here in Germany we only just got Guardians 2 on Netflix as the freshest MCU movie. I really dislike that we get certain stuff way, way later than the US, when the theatrical releases were more or less the same.

Honestly, Stranger Things and Ozark are the only reasons I would still continue to have a Netflix subscription.

@soberchimera - Stranger Things and the upcoming Iko Uwais martial arts series are the two reasons I'll stick with Netflix at least through this year.

I'm really excited for Disney+ if they add every single Superhero show ever, including the 60's forward. And for the love of God, now that you own Fox.... PUT X MEN TAS AND SPIDER-MAN TAS ON THERE! They took them off Hulu, I want them back! Lol
