Earlier this week, we learned that DC Comics would be releasing its April 1st titles as planned on digital platforms. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many comic book retailers have been forced to close, and those that haven't are unable to sell physical comics anyway due to Diamond Comic Distributors shutting down for the foreseeable future.
Well, after likely receiving backlash from retailers concerned about their future, it's now been confirmed that titles slated to be released digitally on April 1st have now been pushed to April 29th. That's right, in a time when people are desperate for escapism, none will be found in the DC Universe!
It's an understandable decision in many ways, but with print and digital media having two very different audiences, it's also one which is bound to frustrate a lot of people.
The issue was likely that a lot of readers would start buying their comics digitally, leaving these already at-risk retailers in even bigger trouble when stores re-open and have significantly fewer customers. With no end in sight when it comes to the Coronavirus, there's no telling how much longer these delays could stretch...or whether DC Comics will change their minds!
Issues which were scheduled to go on sale on Wednesday, April 1st included Batman #92, Harley Quinn #72, Justice League #44, Justice League Odyssey #22, and Lois Lane #10.
How do you guys feel about this decision?
