Since this is my first DCEU article on here, I’m going to keep it pretty simple and mainly focus on things that we know we will be getting in upcoming years ahead. I plan on writing more articles in the future that focus more on speculation and things that I want to see in the DCEU, but DC and Warner Brothers are doing a great job of keeping fans like me happy, so those articles may not be needed.
The Villains
Villains, DC has them and their not afraid to use them. From Lex Luthor to The Joker, and Brainiac to Darkseid, DC’s Villains represent some of the best and biggest baddies in all of comics.
Next year we will be getting The Joker and Lex Luthor on the big screen and for the first time ever they will exist in the same Universe. From the trailers alone, it is obvious that we will be watching something that we’ve never seen before on the big screen.
One of the things that I’m looking forward to the most as the DCEU carries on is watching Lex Luthor and other villains react to the actions of the Joker and seeing all of these amazing characters interact together. The heroes are going to have to be on their A game, which brings me to the next thing on my list….
Batman
Aside from a less than stellar conclusion, the TDK Trilogy was great and will go down in history as the “Godfather” of CBM Trilogies. Nolan did an amazing job, but one thing that was lacking was his inability to truly embrace the comics due to his more realistic take on the characters and on the Batman mythos in general.
For the first time ever, we are going to see a Batman on screen, set in the more serious tone of Nolan’s films (Not
Schumacher’s, Thank God) that will fully embrace the comics in a Universe where anything is possible.
The fantastical elements of stories like Hush, Court of Owls, The Dark Knight Returns, Killing Joke, Under The Hood, and even Knightfall are all possible now, the DCEU won’t be restricted on the big screen, and in an age where CGI and Visual Effects are better than ever, I expect to see some amazing things.
Superman
The origin has been told and now it’s time for the writers, directors, and actors to start having some fun. As seen in the trailer, Clark Kent will play a role in Batman v Superman, and we will finally see Superman’s secret identity trying to hide amongst the masses and working at the Daily Planet.
Aside, from Kent, I’m also really excited to see Superman evolve in the DCEU. One of the reasons that I love Man of Steel is because it sets up the DCEU and Superman’s character perfectly. Not only will we get to see Superman learn from his mistakes and become a better and more effective hero but we will also get to see the world’s reaction to the terrifying events that took place in Man of Steel.
The aftermath of Man of Steel will play a major role in Batman v Superman, and I feel like this is an amazing way to tell a story and to truly connect the movies and characters together.
We will also get to see how all of this has effected Ma Kent and we will see a hero that is coming to terms with the concept that although he is the most powerful being on the planet, he cannot save everyone. We will get to see how all of those years of maturing before donning the suit and cape have made him a stronger individual and prepared him for the challenges ahead.
Wonder Woman
I swore I wouldn’t mention Marvel in this, but, I have too…. by the time Civil War hits Theatres, Marvel would have released 13 movies and not one of those movies is based on a female character. DC on the other hand will release Wonder Woman as their 3
rd addition to the DCEU and with a talented cast and director, you can tell that DC will be taking this adaptation seriously.
Aquaman
We have never seen a character like Aquaman on the big screen, especially not with the visual effects that we have available today. We have also never seen an actor with as much presence as Jason Momoa take on this iconic character. I have faith in Momoa, and if you have read Aquaman comics, you know that the King of The Seven Seas and the ruler of Atlantis is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I can’t wait to finally see DC/WB do the character and the name justice on the big screen.
The Flash
This movie has so much potential. Based on the reception from the Flash CW Tv show, It’s obvious that fans care about and relate to the characters that exist in Flash’s universe and mythos. The big screen version of the Flash will take this to the next level. The Flash, Professor Zoom, and the Speed Force existing within the DCEU is more than enough to get me hyped for this movie and hopefully franchise.
Cyborg
This movie has the potential to be absolutely amazing. The story of Cyborg’s origin is heartbreaking, motivating, emotional, and fun (Yes, I said the F word), Cyborg’s story could also be very relatable because it deals with a lot of family issues as well.
This could also be a horror-esque CBM, because Victor’s initial transformation is truly horrifying. I don’t want to spoil the whole story but if you haven’t read any Cyborg titles yet, check them out, also check out Cyborg’s long history with Teen Titans.
