i like static shock alot. loved the cartoon and loved the crossovers. i liked everything they were saying until they brought up "one of the first african american heroes to headline a comic." if you can leave race out of the series then i'm all in. when people talk about superman they don't say "he's the first white hero." or "he's the first hero written by jews." race shouldn't be a factor. to me all heroes are equal.

I watched a little of the cartoon, but I'm not a big fan. Was wondering what you all thought.

Yo guys. Benjamin Dewhurst here. Thanks for posting/discussing. If you'd like to see more, check out our behind the scenes of week 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZG7XCUmI7w. We also have some killer storyboards/bts pics up on our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Static-Shock/166190096808159.

@Hawkeye I know what you mean, and yes, we're leaving race discussion out of the film. Didn't even really give it a second thought, to be honest. We thought it was an important note to make for our pitch video though, seeing as how in the average layman comic book fan's eyes, there are VERY few african american comic headliners. Spawn, John Stewart, Storm... the list is limited, and it obviously shouldn't be. Thanks for commenting!

No problem ToughGrappler, thanks for the love. Be sure to share your work on our facebook page, we're already getting posts from other people doing their own Static incarnations. And Amen to that - R.I.P. McDuffie.

Race is an issue & always will be, because most popular comics have been dominated by caucasian characters since their inception. The word 'hero' which is a greek terminology is derived from the word 'heru' which is African or Kemetic in origin. Heru is the hawk/falcon deity in the egyptian pantheon known as Horus. So shout out 2 all my superherus.

I love the enthusiasm for this project however unless this is supposed to take place during Static's college years, Emmanuel looks a little old for the role.

@Clute That's correct, they are more college-aged. We're "growing up" Static's story quite a bit. I think part of that is because we've all grown up quite a bit ourselves since Static's story was so huge on the WB, part of that is because of what's really important about Static Shock.

What is important to me about the Static story are a few main concepts:
1.) the gang culture, especially what surrounds the "big bang"
2.) what a young man (not necessarily high school aged but "young") does to handle the overwhelming power he's given and
3.) what effect his power and his past has on those close to him - his family and best friend Richie. Our film's entitled "Redemption", because unlike many squeaky-clean supers, Virgil actually has to seek out, and struggles with, his own redemption for his past.

We've definitely gotten a little heavier with Static's story (making it more "real" does that), but I think it will land well. Well, that is, unless trolls come out of the woodwork en masse : ) haters gonna hate.

Man, if you guys were going to go with a younger actor for Virgil, and he wasn't busy with Victorious on Nickelodeon, Leon Thomas would be a pretty good choice. He's college-age, looks JUST LIKE Virgil, and he's a really good actor.
