New 52 IMPULSE Revealed!!

I didn't mention this in the teaser for the sake of spoiling but Wally West in the New 52 is a biracial (half black/half white) teen. Many have wondered if he would become the new Kid Flash but it seems with the recent Future's End solicits he will actually become Impulse, the name Bart Allen originally had in the Pre-New 52 continuity. Here's what he will look like:

Biracial Wally really serves zero purpose at all.

Seriously, I not trying to be spiteful or anything, but this is so far removed from Wally in his appearance, both in and out of costume, as from what I gather, his personality too, they may as well have made a completely new characters.

@Klone I kinda agree, Wally's character description in one sentence has been: Funny redhead guy, this new version has nothing in commonbut the powers. It really seems that he was chanced because they wanted to use that costume and thought it looked cooler on biracial kid. Just another New 52 ƒuck-up.

I don't understand why he needed to be called Wally? He will have nothing in common with him. This Wally's history is going to be completely different. In the past Dick Grayson and Wally West are best of budes. They both share some stories together. They both were sidekicks to more famous superheroes and grew up together. So now that part of those guys history is taken away.

I read the Flash comic 30 and it didn't even sound like Barry and Wally are family members anymore. Maybe in future comics it will say they are. But for now it doesn't sound like they are. So I see no reason this guy is called Wally. Because he isn't. I like that DC Comics is adding more black characters. But changing fan favorite characters ethnicity is just plain dumb. Because at the end of the day the person is going to be a completely new character with only the name being the same.

It's sad but true these characters would have a different upbringing. What I mean by that is that both white and black Wally wouldn't see the world in the same light as each other. Their parents would have different experiences that they would have shared with them. Take black Wally maybe his parents tell him stories about all the troubles they had in life. Things like just going down the street or even trying to get a job. Where for the white Wally his parents didn't experience those kind of things.

So it seems like it would have just been easier to make a new character instead. Just look at Miles Morales and Peter Parker they both live in the save universe. So why didn't DC do the same thing with Wally and this new guy. Because at the end of the day this character is a completely new one. Also why use the name Impulse? Is it that hard to think up speedsters names. I think Bolt or Silver Bolt could have been more interesting. Because why do you even need to change Impulse's history too.

So hopefully soon DC will soon revert to pre new 52. Plus keep this new character. Just give him his own name. So he doesn't have to piggyback off of someone else's success . Because why should this new character get the short end of the stick. Because if your bringing someone new to the comics don't just do it half way go the whole way instead.

New 52 isn't feeling new no more... The Wally thing sucks, miss the old Wally, pointless.

Missed opportunity of bringing the real Wally West - out of time and different Earth come to mix things up, oh well.

If they are just going to change everything about an established character just to make the comics more racially diverse, why not just create some new characters in that universe?

Why change Wally West in every way, looks, demeanor, personality just to fill some affirmative action role?

Look at the creation of Simon Baz in the Green Lantern universe. DC felt they needed to incorporate a character of Arab or Muslim descent so they made a new character. They didn't just all of a sudden decide, "from this day forth, Hal is now an Arab" They added to that comic.

If this Wally is nothing like the Wally we have always had in everything including race it would have been better to just make this an entirely new character instead of dumping on the backstory of Wally that seemingly now is not in play anymore.

I love how everybody just wants the exact same story re-told the exact same way.

Anyways, looks good and sounds interesting. Good work @hybrid!

New 52 is such a waste of time. All they did was take the few remaining decent DC characters and loafed a huge chocolate brick in their mouths. And the fan's.

@nibs i think we just want it retold with the same character, tweak things sure but in the end he should be the same guy

As pissed as i was about all changes simply for diversity's sake, now i'm fine with everything that happens with their reboots and relaunches and parallel universes and tv-verses and movie-verses just as long as it's good storytelling. If their characters aren't just switched to colorful, empty shells, i'm on board. Guess i finally grew some pubes. Seriously though, after being trampled with changes and different versions, year after flippin' year, the only thing i can do is roll with the punches. No point in raising up a stink each time unless i wanna die of a heart attack.

They should just create new characters... you'd think comic writers were creative!

I don't understand the need to change characters backstories. If you want more diverity -then CREATE new characters not destroy decades of continuty. don't think anyone is upset about a new bi-racial character who has super speed. It's because they are taking an existing character and altering their backstory to create diversity. Would that be categorized as reverse-racism? I don't know -but I can see fans of characters wanting to keep with the traditions of the character as originally conceived.
