Perhaps The Cleverest (And Cheekiest) Piece Of Marketing For DC's "The New 52" Yet!

Perhaps The Cleverest (And Cheekiest) Piece Of Marketing For DC's "The New 52" Yet!

Well, this was a very devious move by DC! Promoting the relaunch of their titles this month, they bought certain keywords on Twitter so that their info would come up first. And one of those words was MARVEL...

Now, I'm not sure how many of you guys use Twitter (if so, be sure to follow me by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page!) but among the usual trending topics on the site, there will occasionally be one or two which are "Promoted" by certain companies for movies or what have you. They do this by purchasing certain keywords, something that Bleeding Cool point out was done by DC recently.

What's the big deal? Well, try searching for "Marvel" and you'll get...

Now THAT is what I call a crafty bit of marketing! The site point out that, "Trademark owners can challenge when their trademarks are bought as keyword searches." Hmm...I'm guessing that it won't be too long until the latest division of the House of Mouse contact their lawyers, eh?

Well... I work in a ad agency and that's pretty common when it comes to directed media... just check the google adwords logic companies use, that's the same.

Sometimes they're really aggressive, like, if you search for "Mc Donald's" you'd get a "Really? Real burgers are here (link to burger king)" - this example is hypothetical, BTW :P

@PaulRom - Chill out dude. They're just joking around. "Dumbass" wasn't meant in a threatening or mean way.

@stevepants - Says who? Sounds like we were reading comics before you stopped shitting yourself :)

@Clones in other words, "Marvel" is already a film genre by itself. Any superhero movies are first thought to be "Marvel".

Check on the Malaysian (or is it Indonesian?) tweet Clones are translating - people overseas are starting to understand Marvel brand of superhero movies. WB/DC brand, not so much. They know about Batman or Superman characters, but the first thing that comes through their mind when seeing an unknown superhero fella on the screen.. "Is this another Marvel movie".

Marvel is starting to look like Pixar, fellas.
