ALPHA FLIGHT, Canada's Premier Superhero Team, Finally Returns This August In New Comic Book Series

Marvel Comics has revealed that writer Ed Brisson and artist Scott Godlewski will launch a new Alpha Flight comic book series this August with two competing versions of Canada's premiere superhero team!

Later this year, Fall of X will see the X-Men enter a new era of uncertainty, danger, and mystery. Amid the chaos, a familiar superhero team will return when Alpha Flight reassembles to navigate the dark times that have befallen mutantkind.

This new chapter will be written by Ed Brisson (New Mutants) with art from Marvel Comics newcomer Scott Godlewski. Together, they'll introduce two conflicting Alpha Flight squads that are formed in response to the shocking events of this year's Hellfire Gala.

Mutantkind's actions have put Canada on the offence and in addition to crafting a new line of Sentinels, they're going to assign a government-sponsored team to de-escalate the mutant conflict by any means necessary. However, a second Alpha Flight team joins the fight, striking from the shadows!

More secrets and conspiracies are revealed as classic Alpha Flight members and new faces alike become major players on both sides of a war that will define mutantkind.

Guardian, Puck, Snowbird, and Shaman return, as a terrestrial Alpha Flight bursts onto the scene. But what schism will pit these heroes against their former teammates Aurora, Northstar, and Nemesis, as well as Aurora's beau, Fang? The Fall of X has changed the game. Will Alpha Flight soar to new heights...or be crushed under the weight of an impossible mission?

"Like every Canadian kid who grew up reading comics, one of my biggest dreams was to write for Alpha Flight," Brisson says. "Unfortunately, Sasquatch is currently indisposed, but the opportunity to bring the rest of the team together, even if they're split and fighting against one another, is an absolute dream come true."

"And for those of you wondering if I've forgotten anyone, rest assured, I haven't. There are a few surprises for Alpha Flight fans in the mix, but I won't spoil anything just yet."

Alpha Flight #1 is set to arrive in comic book stores on August 16. In the meantime, check out Leonard Kirk's cover for issue #1 below.

I was actually thinking the other day that I wouldn't be at all surprised if Alpha Flight were one of the next MCU movies announced. Maybe even before we get X Men. Maybe this is a small sign of things to come. When was the last time they had their own ongoing series?

@IronDean2099 - I was thinking a show. Together with Excalibur, those are two projects that can work really well as shows I think.

And if they're doing a Wolverine show, they can always have Alpha Flight show up in that

@IronDean2099 - Definitely a show! Then have Guardian and Co. start showing up I’m on the big screen. Man growing up in the 80’s I loved reading Alpha Flight.

@bkmeijer1 -

Definitely expect Alpha Flight to pop up in "X-Men '97"

@Scripturepoetic - that would definitely be pretty sweet.

Could see them use 97 to test out the waters a bit when it comes to mutants, so Alpha Flight could fit into that

@bkmeijer1 - I'd love to see Exiles as a show. Basically Dr Who in the MCU and unlimited potential when it comes to who the line up could be.

@IronDean2099 - totally forgot about Exiles. Definitely a team that would be great to see in a show as well

Alpha flight was a pretty good comic book back in the 80s,loved Wildchild.

@marvel72 - I loved John Byrne's run on it for sure. Short as it was. After he switched books and The Hulk team took over it quickly became awful. Completely gutted and replaced the team. Writer Bill Mantlo killed Alpha Flight IMO.

Okay hear me out, get Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg to write and produce a Alpha Flight mockumentary series for D+. It'll work.

@soberchimera - Oh I got it, Jason Reitman for Alpha Flight! I just looked up Canadian directors and he's the only one I could see doing Alpha Flight lol.

@FilmGuy7878 - That style would work even better for The Great Lakes Avengers.

@mountainman - YESSSS!

Get Johnny Knoxville as Mr. Immortal, Zach Woods as Flatman, Jerrod Carmichael as Doorman, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Big Bertha, Hannah Einbinder as Squirrel Girl, and Andrew Dismukes as Grasshopper (who would be the show's Kenny from South Park) and BOOM! comedic success!

@FilmGuy7878 - 100% in for that. I see Alpha Flight as much more serious, so I’d prefer the comedic approach be saved for a truly comedic team.

@mountainman - Fair. I'm honestly surprised the GLA HASN'T shown up already. Would have been so much better to give them the sitcom instead of She-Hulk.

Underrated team, hopefully this lasts longer than his Ghost Rider run.

I'm Canadian and grew up in the 80s reading the original Alpha Flight comics. The first couple years were great, but I fell off around issue 30. So I love seeing the original team back together.

Would love to see Alpha Flight established in the MCU and the new Wolverine’s first appearance being him breaking out of Weapon X, roaming the Canadian Wilderness, and fighting Wendigo with their assistance.

the silouette of aurora looks hideous...i managed to pick up the alpha omnibus...and i know i've missed issues since the initial run stopped...i loved alpha flight...and it seemed like they were kind of wasted back in the day...they totally had their own feel with weirdo villians and situations...especially when dealing with snowbird, shaman, talisman and walter...things were always on the edge of weird...and i loved it...but they didn't really do anything with marina...puck moped about heather and was depressed that he was too small for her...aurora had the split personality and was banging walter...northstar wasn't out yet, but that would have put the whole series into telenovela central...so much drama...great costumes, pretty people...i don't even know what the hell i'm saying anymore...this looks good, hope it is...damn, i miss alpha flight...lol
