This August, Marvel Comics will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man in the pages of Amazing Fantasy #1000. The giant-sized one-shot will be a collection of stories exploring the past, present and future of Amazing Spider-Man storytelling brought to life by some of the industry’s top creators.
Among them will be names such as Neil Gaiman, Jim Cheung, Michael Cho, Dan Slott, and Jonathan Hickman.
The collection of stories will explore the past and future of Amazing Spider-Man storytelling in tales that leave a profound impact on the Spider-Man mythos and showcase why Spidey is one of the most beloved heroes in comic book history.
In honor of the landmark issue, legendary comic creator Joe Quesada returns to Spider-Man with a breathtaking wraparound variant cover. The former Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief had a profound impact on the Spider-Man mythos (both good and bad), and now fans can once again see Peter Parker web-swing in Quesada's undeniably captivating artwork!
"It’s Spider-Man’s 60th and we wanted to celebrate in style by inviting some of the greatest creative minds in the world to celebrate it," Editor Nick Lowe said when the comic was first announced.
We'll hopefully have more artwork to share with you soon, but Amazing Fantasy #1000 is shaping up to be a fun ride. Marvel Comics will also release Amazing Spider-Man #800 later this month with artist Ed McGuinness making his debut on the title alongside regular writer Zeb Wells.
You can join some of the industry's top talent in celebrating Spider-Man's birthday when Amazing Fantasy #1000 arrives on August 31. For now, check out Quesada's variant cover below:
