BLOOD HUNT #1 Kicks Off Marvel's Latest Event With A Twist That Turns The Series On Its Head - SPOILERS

The first issue of Marvel Comics' Blood Hunt went on sale today and to say the series isn't remotely what we expected would be an understatement. That's evident from major deaths and a shocking twist...

The first issue of Marvel Comics' latest event series, Blood Hunt, hit stands today. However, it wasn't what we expected from a comic that's mostly promised to pit Earth's Mightiest Heroes against a seemingly endless vampire hoard.

It begins with the world's Darkforce users being turned into portals which have blocked out the sun across the globe. With that, vampires emerge from the shadows, feeding on humans and turning countless others.

The Avengers attempt to fend them off and, after he asks Miles Morales/Spider-Man for a favour, Blade reaches out to them with the promise of information capable of helping turn the tide. However, when his truck is teleported to their base, a group of ultra-vampires known as the Bloodcoven emerge instead.

They make short work of the team, either incapacitating or killing them. Black Panther and Thor both die, though the latter buys Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and The Vision the time they need to escape.

Back in New York, Doctor Strange has discovered a spell which will kill every vampire on Earth. It means eliminating some of his friends, but it's a sacrifice he's willing to make if it saves the planet.

Blade shows up and recaps what's happened, including the fact a vampire cult known as "The Structure" has enacted a plan which will allow them to finally make the world their own.

With that, Blade reveals that he's their leader and proceeds to stab the Sorcerer Supreme with one of his trusty swords! Yes, the Daywalker is Blood Hunt's big bad, a twist that none of us saw coming which has established him as one of the Marvel Universe's greatest villains.

Such a bummer that comic deaths are so meaningless and not remotely shocking. This is the second time Strange has died in as many years. Gee, I'm sure it'll really stick this time.

No one ever stays dead in comics except for Uncle Ben, Bucky and Jason Todd. Wait! What?

@RolandD - And Gwen Stacy (unless you count the alt universe Spider-Gwen that now resides in 616) (she's basically back).

Ok, gotta think of an awful twist pertaining to marvel in a vampire crossover...

I got it. It's revealed the spider that bit Peter was secretly a vampire spider.

Okay not gonna lie, that’s actually a pretty clever twist.

But I was really looking forward to Blade having his moment in the sun (no pun intended).

The Daywalker is such a great concept and Blade has a lot of potential to be a Marvel “hero”. An X-Men type character going against his own kind protecting those who would fear and hate him.

But…this is a good storytelling route too, even though Blade’s whole schtick for years has been to not become the thing he hated the most.

Guess we’ll see where it goes.

@HashTagSwagg - Agreed, Marvel is creatively bankrupt at this point. Heel turns, civil wars, or giving the character a kid are the only new ideas they can come up with.

I'm so tired of these "shock" deaths that don't mean anything. Thor goes head to head with Galactus, but gets killed by a vampire? This is why I don't read comics anymore. That said, I got sucked into the new Ultimate Spider-Man and it is fantastic.

Just read it. Pretty cool so far. It was shocking to see what happened and I'm very curious on how they're going to "undo" what they did. PEPE LARRAZ is Marvels best artist right now.
