In the first issue of Marvel Comics' latest event series, Blood Hunt, superhumans with a connection to the Darkforce Dimension simultaneously lost control of their powers.
The eruption blacked out the sun, creating an eternal night which allowed vampires everywhere to launch a coordinated attack against humanity. Earth's Mightiest Heroes did their best to protect the innocent and control the chaos, only for The Avengers to be tricked into allowing the Bloodcoven, a group of super-powered vampires, into their headquarters.
Fleeing, The Avengers were forced to leave a badly injured Thor, Black Panther and the Scarlet Witch in the hands of their new enemies. Blade, the vampire hunter, met with Doctor Strange and Clea at the Sanctum Sanctorum, revealing that he is the mastermind behind the vampire invasion...and mortally wounding the Sorcerer Supreme.
It was one hell of a cliffhanger to leave things on and Blade's villainous turn has generated a lot of discussion among fans.
Today's Blood Hunt #2 kicks off by revealing that T'Challa is now a vampire. Blade, meanwhile, tasks the Bloodcoven with tracking down his daughter, Brielle Brooks/Bloodline. She's working with Dracula and they both team up with The Avengers to fight the Daywalker's twisted group of monsters.
They make short work of them this time, with The Vision brutally killing Megrim after taking her into the atmosphere and the harmful rays of the sun. The Avengers travel to the Sanctum with Brielle and Dracula (Strange has been forced to take on his Astral Form after becoming a vampire) where they encounter Spider-Man, Tigra, and Hunter's Moon.
However, upon seeing Brielle, Miles Morales - who crossed paths with Blade in the first issue of Blood Hunt - suddenly transforms into a vampire as well, setting the stage for a fight with The Avengers!
It's another big cliffhanger ending and while it does feel a little like fans need to pick up the majority of tie-in issues to fully grasp this story, Blood Hunt is off to a strong start.
