Writer Kelly Thompson will conclude her run on Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel #50, which will be a double-sized issue featuring artwork by Javier Pina and David Lopez. Thompson's tenure as one of the longest-running writers on the character will come to an end this June. Her 50-issue run has included story arcs such as "Re-Entry" and "The Last Avenger," as well as tie-ins to major Marvel events like "War of the Realms" and "Empyre".

Carmen Carnero's cover art for Captain Marvel #50, included below, features standout moments from throughout Thompson's run on the title.

Kelly Thompson has written for a number of Marvel Comics titles in addition to CAPTAIN MARVEL. She has written the ongoing series West Coast Avengers, as well as several limited series, including Mr. and Mrs. X, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop, and Jessica Jones: Blind Spot.

"When Marvel asked me to write Carol's new Captain Marvel series back in 2018, in the lead up to her first film, I was delighted and also terrified," Thompson shared. "But I'm glad I didn't let the terror win, because it has truly been a fantastic experience."

"While it hasn't always been easy, I'm so proud of the stories we've told with Carol, but none of it would have been possible without the fans. Captain Marvel fans are some of the best comic fans -- and humans -- I've ever experienced, truly. So thank you for this run. We made it, but you all made it so loved, and so long. Thank you."

Not sure if historic is the word I would use.

@supermanrex - It wouldn't have gotten canceled if people loved it.

@supermanrex -

I'm not saying it was good or bad. I've been reading it. It's been ok. I'm just saying historic might be the wrong word.

@MitcHendricks -

It didn't say it was cancelled. It's just the end of Kelly Thompson's run. There could be an issue #51 with a new writer but more than likely there will be just a Captain Marvel #1 with a new writer to do a new run.

@MitcHendricks - this is not your run of the mill cancellation. this them ending a run and retooling for the upcoming movie and releasing a new series just in time for synergy. im guessing the new series will have elements of the marvels and in it with her sharing the book with monica and kamala. this is marvel publishing strategy 101. if your fan then you remember when the xmen started wearing leather costumes and wolverine suddenly was taller.

@MitcHendricks - Lol in an age where like 60% of books don’t make it to issue 11, I don’t think it would’ve got 50 issues if people didn’t love it. When is the last time a single writer wrote a big two book for that many issues? King on Batman, Aaron on Thor then Avengers, Ewing on Immortal Hulk. All I can think of in the last 10 years.

Is this a review or a PR please piece @natebest ?
The opinions are insane

“ extraordinary run”

“ 50 issues of thrilling adventures, uplifting character-defining breakthroughs, and awesome powerhouse feats that are destined to inspire generation after generation of readers.”

“From incredible story arcs like the revolutionary "Re-Entry" and Carol’s dark turn in "The Last Avenger" to pivotal tie-ins to some of Marvel’s biggest events like War of the Realms and Empyre, Captain Marvel has been a must-read since the very start. Along the way, the title has garnered new lifelong Carol Danvers fans and delighted the character’s devoted fanbase.“

“ Don't miss this capstone to a record-breaking run as Thompson puts her final fingerprints on Earth’s Mightiest Hero when Captain Marvel #50 arrives in comic book stores on June 7. ”

@TyrantBossMedia - In fairness it is an "Extraordinary run" because all the previous runs, along with a lot of Marvel comics these days, last about 12 issues lol

@Thing94 - Historic in the since that this is almost double what any book called Captain Marvel that they’ve published since the 70s has lasted.
