COMICS: After 7 Years, Hulkling & Wiccan Share An On-Panel Kiss

Ooops - better keep this away from One Million Moms! Marvel's highest profile gay couple finally kiss in the pages of Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #9..

Bit of a mini-milestone here. After seven years Marvel have finally shown Teddy (Hulkling) Altman and Billy (Wiccan) Kaplan kiss on-panel. May not seem like a too big deal as comics have already broken through many old barriers over the years, but as we know the issue of same sex relationships can still be met with a lot of disapproval in the funny books.. and is definitely still considered a strong visual taboo by many. Here are the relevant scanned pages..

Sounds like there might be another Marvel wedding on the cards! Coincidentally, we have already heard of one earlier that may also wind up being a same sex marriage in Astonishing X-Men.

Politics has finally wormed its way completely into comics.

Has nothing to do with politics. This is life.

I see no politics here. Social issue, yes. Good on Marvel.

I see no problem here it's something completely natural in today's society, except for some stupid religious bigots, seriously get over it.

You can be born with your gayness, its scientific. But I can be born with my distaste for it as well.

Come on. I have nothing against gay guys but come on. These situations actually make gay people seem ridiculous. This is every dialogue and situation:
Are you going to break up with me? Sob,sob
I'm not,you know how much I love ya,come give me a kiss.mhmmmmm
Comics are mostly readen by males. Males want to see busty heroines not two depressed guys kissing each other. It kinda off. It takes away from the pacing of the story.

lol. Slightly surprised (for some reason) as to how many users of this site are homophobes/insecure with their sexuality.

Dunno why this is a big deal, they did this with a character & his b/f in an issue of X-Force ages ago and I'm relatively sure North Star's had a same-sex kiss as well as Shatterstar & Rictor. Meh, slow newsday.

As long as it has importance to the story it is ok to me. But if it was there just to make news, that's fail!
Ryden

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this and it shouldn't be a big deal at all! If you have a problem with it you're either a religious moron or someone who's seriously insecure about their sexuality. This is the 21st Century, get a grip.

Is this supposed to be edgy? It the era of Glee? Think again. I'd be shocked it there was a comic with adolescent characters where two members of the same sex DIDN'T kiss.

I guess I don't get out much, but comic-fans are a group of people I never expected much bigotry from . . . oh well. Nothing surprises me.

Technically, bigotry is defined as "intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself."

So...if you are intolerant toward those who hold the opinion that homosexuality isn't healthy,...are you still bigoted?

Is it Gay though? Seeing as Hulkling is mixed of 2 different Alien Races....

Like when Gusto does his standard Cat F*cking, if the cats male, is that gay, or does it remain just bestiality?

Vote with your dollar, people.
If this offends you and you don't think it should be in mainstream comics because it isn't what the majority wants to see, don't buy the book.

If you like it and think it shows a progressive attitude on the part of Marvel and their writers, buy the book.

At the end of the day, Marvel is a company. They will repeat events like this if it does well financially for them.

"Comics are mostly readen by males. Males want to see busty heroines not two depressed guys kissing each other."

Well for all the WOMEN and GAY men who regularly read comics i fully disagree with your comment. Plus I think it fit in nicely with the story. Well done Marvel.

I hear Gandalf The Grey is a bit iffy about gay men..but funnily enough has absolutely no problem with lesbians! Weird eh?

JackTuesday - What are you disagreeing with? Because the statement "Comics are mostly read by males. Males want to see busty heroines not two depressed guys kissing each other." HAS to be true. No doubt. 100%. Unquestionable.

supersayianfan1- God doesn't exist so it doesn't really matter what a fictional character thinks....the whole idea that people base their moral values on a book written between 2000-5000 years ago is astonishing. The Bible is barbaric and primitive. But that's not its fault, those were just the times; however you can't honestly say those standards still stand?!

@NoRegrets- Exactly!!
