COMICS: Marvel Launches All Female Team Book 'Fearless Defenders'

Continue on to read the ongoings' interesting premise from writer Cullen Bunn. The two co-leads of the series will be the unlikely duo of Valkyrie and Misty Knight. What are your thoughts on an all-female team book from Marvel?

When the teaser for Fearless hit the web many folks (like me) were scared that Mark Waid was being pulled off Daredevil. It turns out that the teaser was for Fearless Defenders, a new ongoing series from Cullen Bunn and Marvel newcomer Will Sliney. It's a team book, with only the two co-leads revealed as part of the roster so far, Misty Knight and Valkyrie. Said Bunn on the basic premise of the book---

"The basic idea of the book is that Valkyrie is choosing a new team of Valkyrior, and she's been asked to choose all these women from the heroes of Midgard, instead of from Asgard. She has completely failed in this task. [Laughs.] Valkyrie has been unable to choose anyone that she feels is worthy to be one of the hosts of the shield maidens. So she just hasn't done it. She's dropped the ball.

Because she's not done what she said she would do, nature — or supernature, as it is — abhors a vacuum. The absence of the Valkyrior has opened the door to something terrible. Something awful is waking, and Valkyrie finds that it's really her fault that she's put everything at risk."

Bunn goes on to say that Misty Knight is the first recruit and that those two will be the 2 co-leads of the series. Dani Moonstar will also be a member of the Fearless Defenders with the remaining roster spots being filled out as the story progresses. The story will also feature a female main antagonist that's a creator creation from Bunn. Here's his final words on Fearless Defenders---

"I've heard, for many years, that a female presence in Marvel books is important. I hear a lot of readers saying that. I also hear a lot of readers saying, "Let's do something different." Something that's not the same old trick. I believe this book answers both of those things. Those are some great reasons for readers to give the book a try, if nothing else."

I have no problem having two female characters as the main focus of the comic. I hope Black Widow joins Misty & Valkyrie.

@Kamen YES! I had the Marvel bikini book when I was younger. Always felt conflicted about being attracted to a green woman. Nowadays? Not so much conflict but a full back flip swan dive into HELL YES

This sounds interesting and could be a lot of fun! I'd say use Lyra She-Hulk, and Tigra after her stint at Avnegers Academy. Hell maybe evn throw in a rookie in Finese.

Ehhhhh, maybe. Don't get me wrong, I love the big female presences in books, but I don't like them basicly saying, "Oh this is a book which actually has the girls front and center!" I'd like them to change some of their books so that the girls were more prominent.

It was cancelled 3 issues later. Sorry, I don't see this one lasting too long. I could be mistaken, as I haven't seen the rest of the line up. If they went with that all female team from Hulk #7 I'd be down for that.

Woop! Woop! That's awesome! I'm not really a fan of Misty Knight, but Valkyrie is a great character.

I hope they bring in Black Widow and Ms. Marvel.

A female presence is just as important, if not more, on the big screen as well. Marvel Studios needs to start greenlighting solo female superhero movies!

Once a month, this team will become the deadliest villains the world has ever seen. Should only last a week, though.
