Source:CBR What's going on at the House of Ideas these days? First Victor Von Doom, Alpha Flight, Destroyers, and Iron Man 2.0 were canceled. Now the solo title for X-23 is being put to pasture. Is there a pattern here? More on that after we cover the X-23 details.
The monthly comic starring Wolverine's clone daughter has been canceled. A spokesman for Marvel spoke to CBR about the development and while not confirming the end of the series the spokesman did say that writer Marjorie Liu would be working on other titles at the House of Ideas.
The move follows a number of cancellations earlier this month for titles including "Victor Von Doom," "Alpha Flight" and "Destroyers." However, while those projects were either miniseries that weren't yet published, "X-23" presents a different case entirely. Aside from being an established monthly title, the comic wass also
Marvel's only ongoing starring a female lead and the one written by arguably their most recognized female writer in Liu.
Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso stated that cancellations of titles like "Alpha Flight" came in part due to "new budgetary mandates" and were essentially sacrificed for the new strategy of shipping extra installments of it core series. It should be noted that "X-23" was not the lowest-shipping Marvel Universe series. Behind it were such comics as "Thunderbolts," "X-Factor," "Avengers Academy" and "Ghost Rider" amongst others.
Fans of the X-23 can find her in January's issue #24 issue of Avengers Academy and the Venom mini event.
Now what is going on here? Marvel is seemingly canceling titles left and right these days, some before they even get started. Could Marvel be gearing up for a response to the success of DC's new 52? If you're familiar with Marvel and their aggressive marketing style, you know they are not going to be content with sitting in 2nd place; no matter what Joe Quesada and Axel Alonso might publicly say. If I was a betting man, I'd place a sizable wager on the notion that Marvel's cancellations are an effort to make space for a response to DC's New 52. Don't expect Marvel to reboot anything but expect another "Big Event" that will try to steal some of DC's shine. I'd say expect an announcement to be made soon that a slew of new titles will be released, that will lead up to the next crisis in the Marvel Universe.

X-23 (Laura Kinney) is a fictional comic book superheroine appearing in books published by Marvel Comics, in particular those featuring the X-Men. X-23 is a female clone of Wolverine.
X-23 was created for the X-Men: Evolution animated television series before being brought into comics. X-23 first appears in episode #41 (season 3, episode 11) of the program (titled "X-23").
Her comic debut was in 2004 in the series NYX, where her history and past were never divulged but her abilities were showcased. In X-23, her first miniseries, her origin was fully explained. She became part of the X-Men supporting cast in Uncanny X-Men #450.
X-23 was created by Craig Kyle. He and Christopher Yost were the writers of the two episodes of X-Men: Evolution in which X-23 appears ("X-23" and "Target X"). Kyle and Yost also scripted X-23: Innocence Lost, a six issue miniseries that details the character's origin, as well as X-23: Target X, a six issue miniseries that covers the character's experiences between her origin story and her appearance in NYX. They continued to write X-23 into their runs on New X-Men and X-Force as a member of the teams.
X-23 received an ongoing comic book series in 2010, written by Marjorie Liu.
