COMICS: Peter Parker Will NOT Be Behind The Mask In THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN

It has today been reportedly confirmed that Dan Slott's The Superior Spider-Man will not feature Peter Parker behind the mask, and that Mary Jane's new love interest will be...well, you'll have to hit the jump to find out!

It gets to a point where you have to wonder whether Marvel are trying to alienate ALL of their remaining fans! Dan Slott has said numerous times that he believes going into hiding will be his only option once Amazing Spider-Man #700 goes on sale this December, and now it may just be clear why. The unveiling of The Superior Spider-Man was met with a mostly negative reaction from fans (the darker, more aggressive attitude and costume have been repeatedly scoffed at) but Newsarama reports that the writer today revealed that Peter Parker won't be behind the mask in the Marvel NOW! series. As if that isn't bad enough, the new Spidey's love interest will be...Mary Jane Watson. Surely not?! Unfortunately so...

Dan Slott teased a few more Superior Spider-Man details during a retailer breakfast held at the start of New York Comic Con. Marvel Comics has confirmed that Slott told retailers in attendance that the Spider-Man starring in the January-debuting series is indeed a character other than Peter Parker, and that Spider-Man and Mary Jane would be getting back together — which would mean that Peter and MJ will not be.

This report has been collaborated by numerous other sites, although one of them actually reveals that this new Spider-Man will have retractable claws. With the X-Men now little more than a part of the bloated Avengers franchise, and this apparent decision to get rid of Peter Parker, it's not hard to imagine the publisher losing more and more readers (despite this being yet ANOTHER stunt under Axel Alonso's reign as Editor-in-Chief to increase sales). There is of course a chance that this is a red herring, but for now, how do you guys feel about getting a new Spider-Man? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

What is happening to Marvel? After over a decade of reading comic books, I can't believe that DC is now my favourite publisher...they're just so much better now, even without all this "Marvel NOW!" crap. There's no way I'll be reading a Spider-Man series without Peter Parker!

There is only one Spider-Man and his name is Peter Parker.

I'll give it a shot, but I'm getting increasingly worried. I love what they've done with the Ultimate Universe, replacing Peter Parker, but for 616? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

I have a feeling this is going to backfire on Marvel. I wouldn't be surprised if the comic is cancelled.

Can't wait for someone to come in and finally retcon all this shit along with OMD. Yep, that will be the first Spidey comic I buy since 2007.

I really have no idea what's going on at Marvel anymore. It's like they all went into cocoons and came out as entirely new people. They probably feel that their movies will cover them for the time being and don't feel like they have to put effort into their comics.

I already gave up reading Spidey several years ago. But if they kill Peter or completely remove him from his role as Spider-Man, then any chances of me getting back into the character are dead forever.

Seriously if Peter Parker isn't Spider-man in this title they should renamed it Inferior Spider-man.

Yep, the big three should under no circumstances be replaced.

Clark Kent is the ONLY Superman
Bruce Wayne is the ONLY Batman
and, of course, Peter Parker is the ONLY Spider-Man

I told you guys, queue another brand new one more day crap/ kravens daughter/spider frickin island reboot.
Just bring back JMS to sort this all out.
I've been reading Spider-Man for 23 years but it seams that since 'brand new day' I've been collecting Spidey out of loyalty. Well it looks like #700 will be my last.
Dan slott thank you for the rape of my childhood hero

"This might be conclusive proof that there is no God. If there is, he hates Peter Parker."

This whole thing reminds me of the Story of Job. Except Alex Alonso is God, Peter Parker is Job, Dan Slott is Satan, and this whole comic was written on a bet.

Since when is "good" synonymous with "stuff that marvel172" likes?...

DC is kicking Marvel's ass in the comics right now.

WOW, well good thing my subscription ends at issue #6 of Superior Spider-Man. Some of the other Marvel NOW books got my attention but other titles...well, like someone said the other day "This should be called Marvel WHY".smh Didn't Marvel try to make Spider-Man "dark" around the same time Spider-Man 3 came out?smh

But I don't think this will last long. We will probably get Peter back when TASM2 comes out.

I realise my hope of a Wolverine-Squirrel Girl relationship probably won't happen.

I "get" that.

I know why the Batman-Wonder Woman thing didn't stick.

I "understand" that.

But Peter and MJ is a no-brainer. Kinda like Clark and Lois you know know they'll get back together.

@SwingsetKnight id be done with marvel if they did that... at least until they inevitably brought him back.

But if they were going to kill him, they would market it like that. to boost sales.
