Ah, the final issue of Grim Hunt. The event the Spider-Man comics have been building up for awhile. Now the question is, does the final issue deliver a satisfying conclusion? The answer is yes......and a bit of no.

While this issue was better than the last, it just doesn't feel as powerful as the first two parts. The build-up to Kraven's resurrection was epic. But now that he's back, it just doesn't give that feel of terror.

Enough of that. Onto the goods. We get some serious black suit action. Spider-Man is at his most violent in this one, (almost as much as Back in Black). Great action scenes, the dialogue is very good, and the art matches the story well.

One of the most disappointing factors about Grim Hunt is that Venom and Anti-Venom didn't appear. I want a serious symboite arc already. There hasn't really been one since "New Ways to Die."

Julia Carpenter and Arana get a bigger role than the last issue. Their dialogue is top-notch.

The ending I wasn't a huge fan of. (SPOILER) Now that the Kravenoffs are in the Savage Land, well, it didn't feel very climatic. (Lets hope Fin Fang Foom gets them).

The epilogue is interesting. I look forward to seeing how that progresses.

In closing, this comic is very good. Not the satisfying conclusion I was hoping for, but it was still good.

I give this issue a 4/5. One Moment in Time starts next week.

I'm gonna be reviewing One Moment in Time also, if it does well I may jump in and read spider-man. I want to like the title but that one tiny smudge on his record makes me mad...well he has other bad ones but not as bad as selling his love to the Devil...but still hopefully Quesada can fix the problem he started

@Anil Rickly Chameleon was there I believe. What did happen to Electro? I hope Origin of Species will have Venom or Anti-Venom.

Carnage is coming back, BleedingCool reports. I'll probably make an article on that.

ASM has been kicking ass lately! BND started off really rough and so did this whole Gauntlet thing. ASM kicks ass once again. I love the stressed-out, too angry to joke around Parker. Black suit FTW!

@Anil Rickly Spider-Man probably knocked out chameleon and just left him there. Chameleon is a lot cooler than Kraven in my opinion. I really want the Venom symboite to absorb another host. My favorite Marvel villain was used for comic relief back in Dark Avengers.

I'll be reviewing One Moment in Time next week.

@Della: I couldn't agree more that OMD/BND sucked sweaty symbyote balls hardcore. I've taken a few peeks at ASM since then and NOTHING has satisfied like Shed and Grim Hunt. If there were a time to get back into ASM--that time is now... unless One Moment In Time brings Spidy back to sucky-land (keep your fingers crossed).

"this was one of the top arcs since the civil war unmasking and spidey in black was amazing"
@Anil: Couldn't agree more. I had just about had it with ASM until someone on this site mentioned that Shed was AWESOME and I gave it another shot. Wasn't Mysterio supposed to be with the Kravens as well? I've only really been steadily following the Gauntlet since Shed, so I don't really know what the deal was with Kraven Alliance to begin with. I really hope Spidy kicks some ass in Shadowland. Don't you love the idea of Daredevil as a bad guy? I REALLY hope that's how it ends. I was jumping out of my seat and cheering when I saw Daredevil do the thing he did on the last page (don't wanna spoil it for anyone).

@Destroyer: On that note about Kraven--definitely my LEAST favorite Spidy villain. I am truely impressed with how they made such a great story out of such a sucky villain. Props to Joe Kelly and J.M. Dematteis.

Read it today...meh. It just seemed like a retread of all the philisophical stuff JMS covered when he was writing Amazing Spider-Man. Plus soooo happy the sucktastic symbiotes didnt show. seriously they were cool in the 80s and died in the 80s.

Anil: Dude! I've been wondering about Echo for years!(or however long it's been since SI). I think she may be back. Go to comicbookresources.com and check out the preview of... I can't find it right now! Ah! It has something to do with the Heroic Age like "Enter the Heroic Age #2" or "Heroic Age #2" or "Age of Heroes #2". I believe she's posing as Task Master. She needs to come home to Shadowland imo. I'm trying hard to be optimistic about Shadowland I really hope it ends right.

Also, dija check out the Children's Crusade? It must be set after Bucky's trial because Steve's wearing the flag again. To me, that t was the most shocking part of the issue. I hope that ark is good too (you just never know these days).

@Barry: Gargan sucks and Anti-Venom = wtf? seriously?
I share your sentiments, although the symbiotes COULD be cool again (I truely miss the Spidy/Venom throwdowns)
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/20/2010, 8:55 AM
@jusme6 : Yeah I think they suck becuase look at it this way. The symbiotes are stronger, smarter, and they dont set of the spidey sense, plus venom knew spideys identity...HOW DOES HE STILL LOSE? its just the worst thing to do to a villain that powerful.

@Barry: But it's never an overwhelming victory. The best ones are when Spidy gets lucky enough to BARELY come out on top. Such a great rivalry!
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/20/2010, 1:49 PM
like I said a rivalry that started in the 80s....and died in the 80s.
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 7/20/2010, 2:07 PM
A great rivalry like Spider-Man vs. Venom could never die.
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/20/2010, 4:03 PM
even now its not a rivalry. Gargan nor Brock know who spidey is. Gargan is locked up and Anti Venom is basically doing lethal protector all over agin.
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/20/2010, 4:12 PM
And after reading what I just said basically explained why they were a no show in grim hunt.

jusme6 - 7/21/2010, 1:21 PM
Where did Siege leave Gargan anyway? Is he locked up or on the loose?
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/21/2010, 1:37 PM
its safe to assume locked up....thank god.
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 7/21/2010, 2:19 PM
What we need is the Venom symboite to absorb someone else.
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/21/2010, 2:19 PM
@Destroyer or better yet...just leave.
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 7/21/2010, 2:37 PM
@BarryAllen2121 Man, you really don't like the symbiotes.
BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/21/2010, 3:26 PM
@Destroyer no. No I dont. They honestly annoy me in how inefectual thay are to any story. They're pretty much only around for fans who love venom but don't know a lot about venom. Venom and Sabertooth are my most hated villains.
