SDCC '13: Will The Ultimate Universe Come To An End In CATACLYSM: THE ULTIMATES LAST STAND?

There have been rumours circulating about the end of the Ultimate Universe for a while now, and that seemingly comes one step close to being the case as the 616 version of Galactus arrives on their Earth in Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand.

That's right, Ultimate Spider-Man creative team Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley will reunite for Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand; a story which will feature the 616 version of Galactus arriving on Earth. The five-part series - which was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday - will debut in November. "This is what we think is one of the most eventful chapters in the Ultimate Universe since its creation," Bendis told Newsarama. "The Ultimate Universe is in real jeopardy. There's going to be fallout. It's very exciting, and hopefully a very emotional story, like Spider-Men was. And something for people who haven't been following every damn thing we do. For people who have followed everything? Huge payoff." The series will conclude with a "gigantic epilogue" that the writer compared to Civil War: The Confession, but whether or not this story will bring an end to the Ultimate Universe (many fans have been speculating that the popularity of Miles Morales will see him find a home in the 616 one) remains to be seen. "I know people are really worried about the fallout and what that means for the Ultimate Universe," Bendis added. "And they should be. It's a pretty big deal."

Could be good could be bad.

I loved the ultimate universe until the downfall called Ultimatum was released plus just finished Ultimate Wolverine and for such a good character that was one shitty mini series.

The Ultimate Universe use to be the only Marvel comics I read, but it turned to crap over time. Wouldn't care if it ended honestly.

The Ultimate Universe is ready [frick]ed beyond repair. With the exception of Ultimate Spider-Man I am not going to miss this universe. And you can thank that shitty ass Ultimatum series for that.

Ultimate Universe has run its course.
Time to finish it off...make room for more new titles starring regular Marvel U characters.

I want a new Shang-Chi comic series. He's badass, based off the great Bruce Lee!
Bruce Lee has been dead for 40 years almost to the day & is still crazy popular.

Shang-Chi is Chinese so add that diversity to the Marvel Universe books.
He has street level abilities but I would like him to take on powerful villains as an underdog hero.

Keep the Ultimate Universe, if only for Ultimate Spider-Man. Still one of the best comics Marvel publishes.

i can see marvel launching a marvel cinematic universe comic line,i'd be fine with that keep the movies out of the 616 universe.

the 616 universe should influence the movies not the other way round.

Ultimate Spider-man has been great, it would suck to see it go but as for the rest of the Ultimate-comic-universe, I could care less.

Ultimatum ruined the Ultimate uni. No Wolverine, no Magneto, no Prof.X, No Cyclops. Just sucked. Would be cool if Miles and Jimmy Howlett jumped over to the 616. Trash the rest of em.

Although the ultimate universe has been disappointing I have to say miles morales as ultimate Spider-Man has been fantastic. If he were to be destroyed, we would lose the best current Spider-Man book

Go head, just first bring Miles Morales to 616 and make him a member of Young Avengers.

@riseofLOGANX36

But the cinematic Universe owes a lot to the Ultimate Universe so you can't blame them.

RDJ plays Antonio Stark cranked up to 11 and the Avengers was basically Ultimates vol 1 with a sprinkling of 616 for good measure.

Keep the Ultimate Universe and allow creators to try new stuff as opposed to messing up 616. And keep the movies out of the comics

Yeah, Ultimate Marvel has definitely run its course IMO. But I wonder if they'll bring Miles Morales over to the 616 Marvel U somehow?

Time to end the Ultimate universe and let 616 naturally evolve while staying true to it's mythos. The occasional bleed through, such as the New Universe does would do no harm. It is obvious that Doc Oc Spidey is a temporary gimmick and Miles Morales Spidey in the 616 universe would be no different, especially with another Spiderman movie being made. He would make a decent regular sidekick for Peter Parker and a Young Avenger or New Warrior. Also, Ultimate Professor X could move to the 616 Universe in time for the new X-Men movie.

I would bet money that Marvel rolls out a new "Marvel Now" Amazing Spider-man #1 with Miles in the 616. It'd only be the biggest selling book of the year...

I haven't really cared about the Ultimate Universe since Peter Parker died. So unless they bring him back, I do not care. And there were things that I did not like Spider-Men that much. Mostly I didn't buy how good Miles was against Peter.

The last good Ultimate universe crossover was Ultimate Power(Seriously, read that one if you haven't). At this stage, the only good thing about the Ultimate U is Miles. The rest is just ... I don't know, really; I just know it's not something I want to read anymore. What made the Ultimate U cool was that it was an updated take on Marvel characters and a continuity built on the hindsight of decades of Marvel continuity. Well now the regular Marvel U is an updated version of itself so the Ultimate U is redundant.

If they HAVE to have an alternate Marvel U, why not start over with something new. Use similar names and such, but use completely different takes on the characters. Like have Magneto be the super soldier of World War II who defeated the Red Skull and make mutants heroes to the world and base the rest of continuity on that. Or you could have an alternate Marvel U where all their produce has been switched with produce from Walmart. That would be awesome.

[frick] that shit! I'm into the Ultimate Universe much more than the 616, have been for a long time. Hate on Ultimatum all you [frick]ers want, ever since then the UU has become way more than just a hipster copy of the 616, it had its own identity and can stand on its own. If you want to judge, do so by the quality of the stories, not whether or not your favorite character is alive or dead.

It would be a shame if they got rid of the Ultimateverse so soon after Miles started hitting his own stride

Hasn't been good since Hickman left Ultimates/Avengers, after that the only good thing was Spider-man.
