X-MEN: Marvel Comics Announces End Of Krakoa Age With FALL OF THE HOUSE OF X And RISE OF THE POWERS OF X

At this weekend's New York Comic Con, Marvel Comics confirmed that the end of the X-Men's revolutionary Krakoan Age is very nearly upon us.

Now, we have details about a pair of intertwined series that will close out mutantkind's current era this January: Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, along with a first look at one of the tie-in titles set to spin out of these events, Resurrection of Magneto

In 2019, we witnessed the dawn of the Krakoa age in Jonathan Hickman's groundbreaking House of X and Powers of X, two interconnected five-issue limited series that spanned mutant history and the future. Now, the Krakoa Age ends in the same dramatic fashion, with each of the aforementioned titles delivering half of the story that will bring the Krakoa Age to its conclusion.

They'll feature the X-Men of today and the X-Men of tomorrow as they wage the final war against extinction across their entire existence. Evolution is inevitable. Extinction, however, is optional.

The two series are fittingly crafted by some of the Krakoa's defining architects, writer Gerry Duggan (X-Men) and artist Lucas Werneck (Immortal X-Men) delivering Fall of the House of X and writer Kieron Gillen (Immortal X-Men) and artist R.B. Silva (Powers of X) delivering Rise of the Power of X.

Writer Al Ewing (X-Men Red) and artist Luciano Vecchio (X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023) will collaborate on Resurrection of Magneto

Krakoa has just begun to fight in Fall of the House of X #1. Mutantkind has never had a greater fall. From the highs of Krakoa - their own glorious nation, a place where they were safe and happy - to the lowest of lows. Outlawed, hunted, killed, most of their kind missing or dead, and now, one their greatest leaders, Cyclops, is on trial facing a death penalty.

Ready or not, the time has come for the X-Men to make their final stand against the forces that have struck them low. The day is now. The place is here. The tale of the house Xavier built will long be told...and few will forget this darkest chapter.

And the fight for Krakoa has been lost in Rise of the Powers of X #1. Ten years ago, the mutants returned from their exile to try and reclaim the Earth from the forces of Orchis. They failed.  Now, within the victorious Orchis with their gauntlet choking the world, Nimrod and Omega Sentinel put their plan within a plan into action.

They are to summon their binary god to consume everything in their accession. All that stands between them is the X-Men. What can they do? They're the X-Men. They'll find a way. That's their power. So begins a story beyond time and space, with the rise of powers beyond our petty human intelligence.

Are the X-Men about to return to the hallowed halls of the X-Mansion? Will the endless cycle of death and resurrection finally end? We'll find out next year, but after half a decade of the Krakoa Age, it sounds like a fresh start beckons...

@bobevanz - Comic books have gotten so stupid since I stopped reading them.

@hainesy - or have they always been stupid and you just didn’t see it till you stopped reading? I’ve noticed some stuff I liked back in the 90s and early 2000s are pretty badly written upon rereading and I didn’t notice it back then. 🤷‍♂️

The Krakoa era is insane. Beast basically became Dr. Wily and has a Skull Fortress and everything.

@GhostDog - House Of X and Powers Of X was a good ten issue series but as it went on I lost interest.

@marvel72 - it got very heavy with so much going on. I stayed on but my interest ebbed and flowed as it went on.

@GhostDog - I could read some of the main X-Titles like X-Men,Wolverine and X-Force but it's when they went into shit like The Hellfire Gala.

Lost me at Duggan. It's borderline criminal that they won't let Hickman finish this.

i hope they dont go so far back to basics its redundant with no evidence of any of the evolution the krakoa era has put these characters through. the x villains have never been more sophisticated and relevant than now during the krakoa era.

Thank God. I hated the Krakoa Era.

But regardless, what's going on in this picture?

We've got Australian Outback Era Rogue. Age of Apocalypse Colossus. 90's Storm. Wolverine back in his yellow and blues. 90's costume Cable, AND Kid Cable. Xavier with a 9 O'clock shadow. Emma holding her finger over her lips like she knows a secret. Scott and Jean sitting on a throne of vines, possibly hinting something from Krakoa will be sticking around. And probably most important, they are all standing in front of the X-Mansion.

This is looking like some kind of time travel shenanigans may be at play.

@CorndogBurglar - It started with time travel shenanigans so only makes sense to end the same.

@Reeds2Much - Yeah, I suppose so. But the time travel shenanigans it began with didn't change anything that we already saw happen since the X-Men debuted. It just told us that the timeline we've been reading all this time was Moira's 10th life, or however many lives it was.

Yay, it's back to the boring ass mansion and all the same ol' stories from before. Krakoa was really a breath of fresh air we needed in the X-books and now it's over (allegedly). Fingers crossed they at least keep something from this era of X-Men.

Artwork looks bad and Dugan can't write good stories to save his life.

Umm I thought the end of the Krakoan era was the Hellfire Gala. Pretty definitive.

I never would have guessed that the X-Men would become the most boring comics from Marvel. 🥱😴

I try and read these books and there are so many characters I dont even know that it makes each issue painful. Once in awhile there is a good issue but its largely been all over the place. Hickmans vision was just a little too big this time and he quit on them.
