AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53 Features Another Crazy Twist As "Last Remains" Continues - SPOILERS

"Last Remains" has been quite the roller coaster ride for Peter Parker, and last week's issue of Amazing Spider-Man ended with Kindred killing the wall-crawler. This week's instalment, issue #53, was light on plot, but did contain yet another major revelation.

The hero finds himself once again experiencing those final few moments of "One More Day," waking up in his Aunt May's house and heading to Harry Osborn's party. He again watches Mary Jane Watson leaving, and the scene plays out as it did before, but by the time all is said and done, Peter has come to understand that Kindred is, in fact, Harry.

Here's where things get weird, though; after resurrecting Spider-Man, Kindred indicates that he's died and returned on more than one occasion, and says: "It's the only way we can move forward. Just the two of us. Because we have so much work to do, you and I."

He doesn't elaborate on what that means, but proceeds to remove his mask. While it previously appeared that this Harry was akin to a rotting zombie who had risen from Hell, the truth is that it's been the former Green Goblin all along (meaning he and "Harry Lyman" aren't two separate individuals - there go those theories that Norman cloned his son and Kindred is the original).

This really isn't out of character for Harry because, at his worst, he once created LMD versions of Peter's parents just to torment him! There's clearly something supernatural going on, though, and it's now obvious that "Last Remains" is going to somehow tie into "One More Day" and the deal Spider-Man made with Mephisto. Hopefully, the next issue will offer up some answers.

However, it's worth pointing out that some believe this is actually Norman (it's hard to tell with Mark Bagley's artwork), though we're not convinced that's the case as it wouldn't make much sense!

Looks like this could actually be going somewhere. Maybe Pete and MJ will be married again and be older again. Back to the 616 of the '90s. The 616 we saw in Into The Spider-verse (it'd be cool if they tie it in to the movie at some point).

Over at the Distinguished Competition, yesterday...

(SPOILERS...ish)

Batman's dead.

(Okay, so yes, full-on spoilers)

Turns out he died off-panel in-between Justice/Doom War and Death Metal.

It would've been more twisting & interesting
if Kindred was actually Pre-OMD Mary Jane, wanting her marriage back.
