HOUSE OF X #2 Reveals A Game-Changing Secret About A Key X-MEN Character - SPOILERS

House of X #1 essentially rebooted the X-Men, and now the second issue has shed some light on why Professor X is leading the mutants to a very different future on Krakoa. Hit the jump to find out more...

House of X #1 revealed that the X-Men have started their own mutant nation on Krakoa, while Powers of X #1 took us into the past, present, and future to see how this new status quo will eventually play out for the heroes. Well, House of X #2 drops a huge bombshell by revealing that Dr. Moira MacTaggert is, in fact, a mutant.

Her ability is reincarnation. Each time she dies, she travels back in time and starts her life over again with the memories of what happened the last time. Over the course of this issue, we see her try to save the mutant race in various ways, but all of them fail with the emergence of A.I.

No matter what she does (whether it's becoming one of Apocalypse's Acolytes, aligning herself with Magneto, or telling Charles Xavier what happens in the future), things always end the same way and we know from Powers of X #1 that the threat of those robots is also relevant in this timeline, which is actually her tenth life. We know she tells Charles about her past lives, so that could explain his new outlook.

There are clearly a lot of gaps that still need to be filled in, but this pretty much confirms that both of these titles should actually be pronounced "House of Ten" rather than "House of X."

What did you guys think of House of X #2's shocking revelations?

I wonder if she is still the mother of Proteus considering she is now a mutant. 🤔

The first issue of House of X was brilliant. Powers of X was okay (except for Nimrod who was funny). This second issue of House of X was really good too. I actually like Moira's powers and how Hickman uses them. Really like this direction he's taking the X-Men.

That's an infuriating power. So she goes back to the beginning - being a baby but with several lifetimes of knowledge of how she f*cked up???

...Sigh...

Moira being human was always one of the coolest things about her. She could hang with the big dogs and hold her own with nothing but her wits and a weird 90's Rob Liefeld gun.

But whatever... I'm come to terms with the fact that the X-Men comics have passed me by. I've just hit reboot fatigue with them.

@Spock0Clock - I imagine the reason they just ended a storyline that had a cure to the X-Gen and added the part about the limited number of rebirths as a means to undo everything that happens during this event and return to the status quo at the end.

Comics, where nothing changes forever.

@Reeds2Much - Yeah, the constant rebooting and revamping is what pushed me out of monthly comic reading and it really got to me with the X-Men since that was the continuity chain I was most invested in.

But from the beginning of the X-titles to around the mid-90's there really was a lot of genuine change and evolution that felt semi-organic. Most of that is on Claremont and Simonson, and once they were gone, it just started to feel more and more like DC's constant rebootiverse (no offense to people who like that sort of thing).

I usually dislike retcons, especially in the Marvel house cause they always suck ass, but here...f*cking hell, this issue was pure kino.

Hickman was born to write DC comics btw and this issue proves it.

I read this as a mostly standalone/dystopian story inspired by the X-men characters, than an actual reboot or retcon. Is pretty removed from the whole timeline so i'm okay with it. And it's also super well written. If it keeps up it'll be the story of the year.

The key to most minority movements is that they have allies outside their demographic helping to advocate for them. There was no need to make MacTaggart a mutant, especially since her child was a mutant.

Oh well.

Sorry, but this “mutant power” makes no sense. Let’s retcon this right now to be a magic power.

Hickman doing it again. After this I want him to take over Spiderman so he can have runs on all the big 4 marvel properties

Anyone reading John Byrne’s ‘Elsewhen’ X-Men story from his Byrnerobotics site?

THAT......is the X-Men I love. This Moira McTaggert retcon sounds kinda loopy. As does nearly everything X-Men related for the past decade or more.
