The Battle

Pick one film from each battle (copy and paste into comments), or leave it blank if you can't choose. You can still vote if you haven't seen a particular film in any particular battle. I'll count the votes, and the winning film goes to the next round, the losing film is eliminated.

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier v The Dark Knight

Big decision guys! Cap or Batman?

AND, if keen, vote for the best CB TV show of all time! (Details on how selected at end of article). This is a mixture of animated and live-action.

Results From Final 4

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (45) defeated Captain America: Civil War (25)
It was pretty close for a while, but the Civil War fans obviously voted early, as last few votes were just an avalanche towards Winter Soldier.

2. The Dark Knight (57) defeated Iron Man (13)
The Dark Knight smashed Iron Man. Iron Man performed great, as a great film should, but Batman too strong.

The Dark Knight easy. Phenomenal film.

ELAYEM - 2/23/2017, 7:17 PM
Wow so far Winter Soldier is winning 20 to 12, very surprising.

Loved both movies but I'm going to be a sore loser here and point out that I guess there really is more MCU bias here than in the real world.

Comparing Rotten Tomatoes - TDK: 94%, TWS: 89%
Comparing Imdb - TDK: 9/10, TWS: 7.8/10
Comparing Box Office - TDK: 1 billion, TWS: 700 million
Comparing Metacritic - TDK: 82%, TWS: 70%

Thanks again to @ossie85 for making and managing this!

@Elayem - You should also include that RT critics gave TDK an average rating of 8.6, while TWS has 7.6.

The issue here, I believe, is that people are not voting for the "best" film, they're voting for the one they prefer.

TDK is the best CBM ever, but it is possible that TWS is more liked among "comic fans".

@Philip - "TDK is the best CBM ever"...not a fact bro, that's an opinion...I loved both movies but I felt TWS was the better movie and the more enjoyable...also, know I'm in the minority but I found Batman Begins to be the best out of the Nolan Trilogy
Philip
Philip - 2/24/2017, 8:28 AM
@Lurchadamo - It can never be an absolute fact, no, but it's close to it. Generally, critics and fans both favor TDK. Then you can go technical, such as performances, direction, script, cinematography etc, which is harder to make a general statement about and my personal opinion carries little weight within that area.

ELAYEM
ELAYEM - 2/24/2017, 9:36 AM
@ICStoopedPeople - Yes please. My life is an unending pit of misery now that TDK is losing on this site

@Elayem - This will be awkward if TDK comes from behind, though.
GarthRanzz
GarthRanzz - 2/24/2017, 12:56 PM
@Lurchadamo - I agree with you about Batman Begins being the best of the trilogy. it is my favorite CBM ever. But TDK was more enjoyable that TWS. I binge watch these CBMs, and finally grew bored of TWS after many viewings. The Dark Knight hasn't lost me yet.

@Elayem @Philip - Can't people just have different opinions?
ELAYEM
ELAYEM - 2/25/2017, 11:06 AM
@JamesPunn - Absolutely. You misunderstood my point. All I was saying was on this website, more people think TWS is the better film. In the real world, more people think TDK is the better film.
JamesPunn
JamesPunn - 2/25/2017, 11:27 AM
@Elayem - Your source for the real world is just other websites that share your opinion though.
ELAYEM
ELAYEM - 2/25/2017, 11:38 AM
@JamesPunn - Not at all. Do you not know how any of those websites work? They're aggregators. Those scores aren't one opinion, they are the average of hundreds of opinions to form a consensus.
The Dark Knight rating on imdb is from an average of 1,757,728 fan ratings.
JamesPunn
JamesPunn - 2/25/2017, 11:58 AM
@Elayem - I understand how those websites work, but you shouldn't dismiss people's opinions from one source because a separate source disagrees with them.
ELAYEM
ELAYEM - 2/25/2017, 12:41 PM
@JamesPunn - I'm not dismissing anyone's opinion, all opinions are essential for fair representation.
This isn't about disagreeing sources, this is about reliability and accuracy.
Clearly those aggregate websites are more accurate for general consensus than this fan forum.
This website provides a smaller sample size which causes less accurate information.
This survey has a sample size of 44.
Rotten Tomatoes has a sample size of 200 to 300.
Imdb has a sample size of 500,000 to 2,000,000.
The box office has a sample size of 100,000,00 to 140,000,000 (Those who saw the movie).

44 voter's opinions on this website matter and I'm not dismissing them, but they are a tiny part of a larger whole, and they become irrelevant when compared to 2,000,000 voter's opinions.

I feel ridiculous getting this analytical over something as trivial as comic book movies but it just helped to get my point across.

I know TDK is gonna get it, but I have a special love for Cap, so:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

As I've said, for 2 Cap movies to get this far (and only having 4 movies against 8 of Batman), it's already a victory.

This shit was hard, especially with Batman being my favorite hero. Still haven't gotten the definitive comic Batman on screen yet, Batfleck is promising but we shall see next year.
