I'm not to big on making articles, but when I do I want them to look professional.  I haven't been the best at it, but I learned some new things to help me out with that.  I would like to share some of my tips and tricks with you today.

I know the site already have tutorials, but if you are like me, they did not help much.

The Basics:

  • Uploading a thumbnail for your article can be done by selecting "Choose File" at the top of the Manage Articles screen.
  • If you want to add a Banner put in the URL for the banner(right click and select "copy image URL") in the provided space beside "Banner Image:" but if you want to upload it, select "Upload Banner Image?" and it will switch over.

  • Delete the text already in the article space before you begin.

  • Do not forget to fill in the Headline, Summary, Categories, and Source.  Select your Article Type and fansite you want your article featured in(if you have a fansite).

  • When writing your articles be sure to use the appropriate tools for formatting.

Embedding Videos and Photos:
  • To get the embed code for a photo, in chrome(I'm not sure about other browsers) right click on the image, select "Inspect Elements" and copy the embed code from there.
  • To get the embed code from a Youtube video, find the video you want and select "Share" under the video.  Select "Embed" and copy the embed code.
  • In a comment, you can just paste the embed code and hit "Post" and they will show up, but in the article you have to hit "Source" and paste it in the appropriate spot.

  • Click "Source" again once you have finished.  With an image, it will show up in the article space, but with a video it will show up as the image below.

Blocking and Links:
  • To block a section of text, click within the section then click the icon above that looks like quote marks.  The background of the section will turn yellow.
  • To set a section or a word as a link, highlight it then select the icon that looks like a globe.  Take the URL of the page you want the link to and post it in the URL section on the screen that pops up.  Click "OK" once you are done.

Preview:

  • To preview your article as you go, select the icon that looks like a page with a magnify glass above it.  A new tab will open where you can view it.  The formatting won't be the same as the finished product.

Changing text color:

  • To change the color of any text, use this formula(must use in Source):  <FONT COLOR="######">text text text text text</FONT>
  • In the spaces with the "#" you must put in the proper code for the proper color.
  • Type the text that you want to be that color in the area with "text" and make sure you do it in "Source."
  • Visit this site for the color codes:  HTML Goodies Color Codes

Yeah, these types of helpful articles are sorely needed these days. Not just for news articles by users, but editorials too. Good on you for taking the time to put this all together, RextheKing! Thumbed

Good job man, thanks for taking the time. Especially for the video embedding, I think that's where a lot of people have problems

Very nicely done. I'm gonna bookmark your article. Never done that for an article before. Giving ya a big thumb too. I haven't had time to write an article since our baby was born, but I have ideas, and when I do find the time again this will be very helpful. It's different now than it was back then so I would need the help. Thanks for this.

Great stuff @RextheKing.

I have a question though. I have trouble embedding images that aren't online? Like from my local machine? How do I put an image that doesn't have a url into an article? Cheers!!

@TheManWithoutFear In Manage Articles under the article space you should see something that says, "Embed Image(s)/Image Management?" select that. A screen will pop up, select "upload image(s)" then select "Browse"; your "My Computer" screen will pop up and you'll need to find your images and select "Copy." Your "My Computer" screen will go away, and from there select "Upload." I have been having trouble with this feature, so if it doesn't work, you'll have find a space on the net to upload them, and get the embed code from there. If you have a DeviantArt like I do, upload them in your "Sta.sh" that way it doesn't show up on the site, but it is online and you can get the embed code. Hope this helps!

@TheManWithoutFear Oh yeah, but if you can get the "Embed image(s)/Image Management?" feature to work, after you hit "Upload" and it finishes uploading, it should bring you back to the original screen when you clicked "Embed image(s)/Image Management?" and under "Upload Image(s)" the photos you uploaded will be there and on the right of them the embed code.

@RextheKing that's awesome man thanks. Unfortunately, I've been having the same problem you have with uploading images and can't get it to work. I should report it to somebody so that they know it needs fixing.

Anyway, thanks for the workaround idea. I'll give it a try.

@RextheKing:
What about polls? I've been trying to include them in some articles, but I never see them in the preview when I put in the embed code
RextheKing
RextheKing - 3/22/2015, 11:49 AM
@RobGrizzly Never done a poll before so I'm not sure, but are you putting the embed code in "Source"? That may be your problem.

RextheKing - 3/22/2015, 12:40 PM
@RobGrizzly Been giving it a try and can't figure out myself. I tried putting it in source, and it didn't work as well. I will keep trying and if I figure it out, I'll tell you how(if you find out before me, let me know).
RextheKing
RextheKing - 3/22/2015, 12:58 PM
@RobGrizzly Yeah, you have to put the embed code in "Source" It won't show up in preview(the one in the article section) but it will show up in the preview before you submit the article. It won't be in the right format, but when it post it will be.
