SPOILER: Marvel Reveals The Identity Of The New Ultimate Thor In THE MIGHTY THOR #20

Marvel has been teasing a third Thor in their comics universe for quite some time, and the latest issue of The Mighty Thor has revealed the latest character to be deemed "worthy"...

Last March, Marvel revealed that the Ultimate Thor's hammer survived the events of Secret Wars, and that a mystery character would take up the mantle of the "War Thor", giving readers a third God of Thunder in the Marvel Universe. Tuesday's The Mighty Thor #20 revealed that the Asgardian Volstagg is the new wielder of the alternate Mjolnir.

After arriving in Nidavellir to assist in a peacekeeping mission, events take a horrible turn when the dwarven mines are bombarded with the fires of Muspelheim, and Volstagg fails to protect a group of Light Elf children in the ensuing carnage. Volstagg's rage is what apparently makes him worthy of the hammer, with the issue concluding with his transformation into the War Thor.

What do you think of this third Thor entering the Marvel Universe? Let us know in the comments.

Why do they have to change their names to "Thor" if they have the hammer? That's not how it works!

@SnuSnu - I think it goes back to the original John Blake Thor comics.

I'm soooo behind with Aaron' run on Thor, but i enjoy it for the most part.
I've read every single thing he did with Wolverine, so i feel like i know this guy like my pockets, he's really good, he gets the character, he's not Marvel's "Geoff Johns" i don't think they have one, Spencer has potential, eventhough ppl hate him and whatver he's doing with Cap, but he knows how to...balance everything.
In terms of Marvel's continuity i mean.
The last issue of SE, was just the latest example.
Bendis USED to be the main thing, the big deal, now...i don't even reconize that guy anymore.
Like, srsly, if CW II was written by Spencer instead of Bendis, that shit would have made so much more sense/success and everything.
Just read The Oath nuff said.

@noahthegrand - But he doesn't need to be NAMED Thor for that. Neither does Jane. You got members like Thunderstrike and Beta Ray Bill and they don't need to call themselves Thor to weild those hammers.

I thought it was a crap issue and a dumb decision on who will wield the Ultimate Thor's hammer.
