DC Comics is celebrating the 1000th issue of
Action Comics and the 80th anniversary of Superman with several retailer-exclusive variant covers, and a comic shop in Clermont, Florida is the first to announce their limited-edition covers.
Mike Jones, owner of The Uncanny Comic Shop, said in a press release that he is teaming up with DC to bring two exclusive covers to his store. The covers will be drawn by DC veteran Tony S. Daniel, who has worked on Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the past. Jones says that he is thrilled by this addition, stating the following:
“We are could not be happier that Tony has agreed to help us in creating our first-ever exclusive retailer variant cover and we are excited to be able to witness this great milestone in comic book history.”
Comic shops across the United States will be getting their own exclusive covers for the landmark issue, and this isn't the only way DC is celebrating this milestone.
It was announced earlier this year that Superman's
red trunks would make a comeback for
Action Comics #1000. Also,
Superman director Richard Donner and DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns will be penning a story for the issue, in addition to longtime
Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis.
The issue, along with the exclusive cover, is available for pre-order now and will be released in stores and online on April 18, coinciding with the anniversary of
Action Comics #1 's release date.
