COMICS: MARVEL Are Relaunching SECRET WARS In 2015

Fans have been awaiting a huge Marvel announcement from NYCC, and this appears to be it: Next May, Secret Wars returns for a year-long event with writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic on board. Could this be the direction the MCU will take too?

This just in from New York Comic Con: Marvel has announced plans to publish a new Secret Wars, from writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic, as a year-long event starting in May 2015. The news was revealed tonight at an offsite event at Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. in Times Square. Apparently the story will kick off at the conclusion of the currently running "Avengers" and "New Avengers" storyline, "Time Runs Out." Hasbro, Hot Topic, and Upper Deck will be handling the tie-in merchandise. Notice how the teaser image from Alex Ross features various different incarnations of some of Marvel's biggest characters? Well Marvel Senior VP of Publishing Tom Brevoort says that none of the characters depicted in the pic are random and all are pulled from Marvel's 75-year publishing history. "However massive you think this is, let me assure you it is bigger than that. It's by far the craziest thing I've dealt with."

@Melkaticox... you say that like Spideys black costume didn't turn out to be Venom! And "some super villain" was the Beyonder. Secret Wars was the crossover event that started crossover events. It's also am event that if the powers that be so desired could lead to a Fox/Sony/Marvel type crossover movie or movies. As the Infinity Gauntlet story opens then introducing the Beyonder is easy. I don't think it would effect the MCU but major comic events can no longer be ignored. They have adapted versions of some of the biggest and best Marvel story's already. Civil War, Secret Wars, Age of Ultron, Infinity Gauntlet are some of the biggest and we've seen (or will see) versions of most of those. SW was excellent.

Probably throwing some fuel on the fire, however...I can't make everyone completely out, but I don't see any Fox-owned characters in there...

I have the physical collection of Secret Wars signed by John Beatty himself, I always was a big fan of the story, and the loose adaptation of it in the '90s Spider-Man animated series, so I hope they don't screw this up. I would love to see them do this in the MCU, too bad they don't have rights to Spider-Man or Fantastic Four characters. Although that would make a great 2 or 3 part epic if Marvel, Fox, and Sony could all get along. And since the story doesn't even take place on earth, they wouldn't have to go through the hassle of explaining why The Avengers, Spider-Man, and the X-Men haven't existed in the same universe up until that point. Not that that will ever happen anyway...

It looks like there are multiple alternate universes crossing over here. I spot Supreme Power Hyperion and Classic Hyperion duking it out, Starbrand from the New Universe,Cap's daughter from MC2, ect.
