The first day of the WWSTL event has come to a close. In comparison to last year, the event was a tad bit slow to gather steam. The lines certainly did not fill up as quickly, nor were they as long as the lines that built up in 2014. The crowd, though still very conversive, didn't seem as eager either. That could be due, in part, to the lack of "pumping up" from Wizard World that was so prominent last year and the year before. It could also be due to the rather...unique line up of guests. I am certainly happy with the guests who have made the trip to be with the fans but with top dogs like Adam West, Burt Ward, Eliza Dushku, Bruce Campbell, William Shatner and Nathan Fillion having left an unforgetable impression on the Lou, it's easy to understand how many locals can feel underwhelmed.
Still, this did not stop the people from coming out in droves once the event was under way. I will say this much about this years crowd; I LOVE their outfits! I know by now many of us have a mental checklist of what characters we expect pretty much everyone to come dressed as. Plenty of Supermen, alot of Storm Troopers, a few DragonBall characters and TONS of Harley Quinns. Not so much this time. The cosplayers were very diverse in their choice of costumes this year and that alone made the event that much more special.
To add to the excitement was the programming and celebrity guests. Attendees got to learn the ins and outs of designing a video game, witnessed first hand true magic from illusionist Morgan Strebler and WWE fans got the opportunity to finally ask all of their questions during a Q&A panel with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
It may not have been the most flashy beginning to the WW weekend, but the energy was definately there. It's only day one and I'm sure we will be in for something great for the remainder of this weekend.
