The boys over at Super Hero Hype are reporting that Robert Downey Jr. had to drop out of the upcoming film "Cowboys & Aliens" due to a scheduling conflict.

Had RDJ stayed on, he would be re-teaming with his "Iron Man" pal, director Jon Favreau who will be remaining on the project. Production is expected to begin later this year with a release date some time in the summer of 2011.

The Sci-Fi/Western is based on the graphic novel that shows us what would happen if aliens showed up in the 1800's. The script was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. "Cowboys & Aliens" is being distrubuted by Dreamworks entertainment.

I can't say that I'm mad about it. To be honest I really think he should focus on the Sherlock Holmes sequels, and Avengers movie.

How does it give him more time for IM3 if Jon Favreau is busy on this film?
