Charlie Cox Believes A PG-13 DAREDEVIL "Can Work," But Would Prefer The Character To "Live In A Darker Space"

Charlie Cox made his long-awaited return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and will reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in the future. We're still not sure where the character will show up next, but there's a very good chance he won't be quite as violent as he was in his own Netflix series!

It was recently announced that Daredevil and the other Marvel Netflix shows will be added to Disney+ with a parental control option, and Cox was asked for his thoughts on this and the likelihood of The Man Without Fear being toned down somewhat for his new MCU adventures.

"I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that," Cox said when asked about the prospect of a PG-13 take on DD during an interview with ComicBook.com. "I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all… so if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it."

While Cox believes a more family-friendly Daredevil can work, he feels the character is better suited to living in a "darker space."

“It absolutely can work, but I guess what you can’t deny is Daredevil is never going to work as well in a PG world as Spider-Man does. Do you know what I mean? That’s the point - I think that the age of the character, the Christian guilt, his history with women and stuff, it’s like it’s a little bit more mature... it has to be.”

Though all MCU big-screen releases (so far) have been PG-13, some have gone pretty dark when needs be, and the studio has proven to have a solid grasp on the necessary tone to bring different characters to life.

What do you guys think? Would you be okay with a PG Daredevil? Drop us a comment down below.

Look, if Disney can have the 3 seasons of DD now on Disney+, I don’t see why they can’t keep the show more adult.

I have to admit, while I didn’t mind Kate Bishop beating Kingpin, the scene would have worked better had it been allowed to have more blood as without it, Kate looked uninjured, but had they been allowed to show blood this fight could have highlighted how much out of her depth she was and her ‘winning’ was more out of desperation that was willing to possibly kill someone.

As it stands, she was getting beat, without the beating, so can see why people say it looked like she did a lot better than she should have against Kingpin

@Knightrider - I hope Kingpin had the serum or something

@Knightrider - Because they want a wider audiences, and Kevin Feige was pretty clear about how he wants ALL MCU movies/TV shows to have the same feeling.

And the Netflix shows are not canon, they are on D+ just like the X-Men movies are.

The way The Batman was done is the perfect compromise for Daredevil.

@DTor91 - it's the only way to go and Moon Knight must be on the same level

I’m actually pretty interested to see what a lighter, brighter take on Daredevil would look like.

That’s the whole problem with Disney - they’re restricted to PG-13. It’s fine for most IP but Daredevil? Punisher? Ghost Rider? BLADE?!

Like yeah, pushing it to the limits like Batman did (saw it last night too.. I would give it a 7/10) is the best version realistically possible here, but still..

@LongMayHeReign - The fact that the Punisher prison fight (which was the video I posted) is age gated should tell you everything.

@LongMayHeReign - I wanted to post the video of the dude ripping his face off in Poltergeist, which was a PG movie, but that gets age restricted too.

Meanwhile a dude's head blew up and lot'sa repeated shits on ScyFy's Astrid & Lilly.

@LongMayHeReign - Yup, those are the rare moments I'm talking about. And they're not even that bad tbh. The Walking Dead levels of violence.
