DAREDEVIL Star Charlie Cox On Potential MCU Return: "You've Got To Be Careful What You Wish For"

Charlie Cox has once again addressed his potential return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggesting that him reprising the role might prove to be a double-edged sword.

Rumors that Charlie Cox is set to reprise the role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been doing the rounds for a while now, but we still haven't had anything close to confirmation, and the actor continues to deny his involvement.

Unfortunately for Cox, this hasn't stopped people asking him about it, and the Kin star was once again quizzed about his potential return during an interview with SiriusXM.

Cox took a slightly different approach with his response, however, suggesting that if he was to suit-up as the blind superhero again, he most likely wouldn't be playing the same version of the Man Without Fear we saw in the now defunct Netflix series.

“What happens in the comics is a writer and an artist will team up for a run of a comic, so they’ll do 10 issues, 20 issues,” said the British actor. “If there was an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine it would be a reimagining of the character and the show. If they choose me to do it, there are going to be some elements that are of course the same. Or they might choose someone else and reboot it all over again.”

It sounds like Cox would be interested in stepping back into the role should the opportunity arise, but he clearly has some reservations.

“You’ve got to be careful what you wish for,” he added. “You come back and it’s not as good or it doesn’t quite work or it’s too much time has passed. It doesn’t quite come together in the same way. You don’t want to taint what you’ve already got. If we never come back, you’ve got these three great seasons and our third season was our best reviewed. So, the trajectory was up. I am tremendously proud and grateful for what we have.”

Cox is rumored to appear as Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and at least two of the upcoming Disney+ series (She-Hulk and Echo), but, again, we still haven't had any solid reports to back this up.

I pretty much want a "reimagining", since I kind of don't like a lot of what they did with the Netflix setting. I'll just be happy to see some Cox.

@Spock0Clock - I think it was all The Hand stuff. I get it was the element to tie all the shows together, but overall it just kind of pulled all the shows down with it.

@Reeds2Much - With how good Shang Chi was, they should definitely set the Hand up as a crossover movie with Daredevil, Iron Fist, Shang Chi, Elektra, Luke Cage, and Xi Xialing in a Defenders movie.

He was the best Daredevil. And DD is still the best CBM show on TV imo.

We haven't had such a great CBM tv show ever since. Sad.

Even if they went for a lighter tone with the character I'd still want him and D'Onofrio back in their respective roles. They've nailed their respective characters.

Just do it!!! Bring em’ back. The entire Daredevil show cast and Jon Bernthal as Punisher while you’re at it.

@MrDandy - I want Jon Bernthal to get a Punisher mini series on Hulu and have Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Rhodey cameo but make it TV-MA and keep it on Hulu to avoid kids accidentally watching it on Disney+

I get wanting him, but I think I'd rather see a recast. Having DD stick around in the MCU proper for a decade would be ideal, but but I'm not sure I'm down with a 50yo DD.

@Waddles - Speaking as someone who tries to stay in decent shape, I remember 38 well. It seems like 20 yrs ago physically, although it was only 3. It catches up to some quicker than others, which is why for more physical roles, I'd put a cap on the age when looking for talent. Maybe he can pull it off, but I'd got tabula rasa on the Defenders.

@inkniron - I see where you're come from, but to put things into perspective Hugh Jackman was about 48 when he shot Logan. Daniel Craig was about 51 when he shot No Time To Die. If Charlie Cox stuck around for 10 years of Marvel Studios productions, he'd be about 48 by the very end. That's getting up there, but, as shown by the examples above, not too old.

It's also not as if the Netflix years don't count. Even if the presentation of the character gets a soft reboot, we've still already had 3 seasons of a great adaptation of the character. You factor in that span of time and you've got 16 years of one actor's progression in the role from ages 32-48. That's a rare and special thing we really don't get that often with how often things are rebooted and recasted these days.

Like with Spider-man. We wanted him so hard to be in the MCU and he sucks. Just let Cox's Daredevil be a happy memory.
