I'd like to preface this by saying I've never seen either Daredevil or Elektra (mostly because of the consistent negativity I've heard about the two), so I can't offer as clear of a view as I would had I seen at least Daredevil.
Anyways...
I honestly think that, as nearly everyone else on here does, Marvel should've regained the rights to the character and reboot the franchise. It would've tied in rather easily with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (especially since Daredevil Born Again, which is rumored to be influencing the new movie, has a cameo from Captain America and, should Marvel make a movie based on the novel, Chris Evans might reprise). It just seems wrong to make it look like Marvel's getting it back, only for Fox to suddenly announce "WE'RE MAKING A DAREDEVIL 2 AND WE STILL HAVE THE RIGHTS BECAUSE THE PROJECT WAS IN DEVELOPMENT FOR YEARS!!!".
Another concern I have is the just-now announcement that none of the original cast members are coming back. If this is supposed to be a sequel instead of a reboot, why not bring the cast back? Before people start calling me a fag for saying such, let me express what I mean. I think that every sequel should have the original cast back (with the possible exception of one or two minor characters), because most people are more than likely to think of the sequel as a reboot. Shuffling of the cast was one of the things that abruptly weakened the original Batman franchise, and I can see it making the Daredevil series unstable (even if the cast was critically panned for their roles).
As stated above, the new movie will supposedly be an adaptation of the critically acclaimed "Daredevil: Born Again" by Frank Miller. The story follows Kingpin discovering Daredevil's identity and making his life a living hell. Now I must admit (based upon the little plot I know of the original Daredevil) that this would be slightly inconsistent, since Kingpin already knows Daredevil's identity in the first movie. Maybe they can change the story a bit? That nitpick aside, the plot for Born Again sounds like a great possible plot for the movie, and (should Fox use the novel for the plot basis) could possibly make the movie itself an improvement.
Finally, I'd like to briefly touch on the director of the new movie, David Slade. I'm hesitant about this choice solely on the fact that he directed Twilight Eclipse. But from what I know about 30 Days Of Night, he seems like someone who can breathe life into the character and make him an especially dark figure on film.
Well, those are my current thoughts on the upcoming Daredevil sequel/reboot/whatever you call it. Whether or not the movie will be good will be determined when it comes out, but for now I'd say hold your breath and see which direction it'll go.
