James Gunn Prompts KINGDOM COME Speculation With Latest Social Media Post

Recently-appointed DC Studios co-head James Gunn has Tweeted another DC Comics image, this time giving way to speculation that he might be planning a Kingdom Come adaptation...

Shortly after being appointed co-head of the newly-formed DC Studios, James Gunn began sharing images of various DC Comics characters to social media, and his latest Tweet may have prompted the most speculation (wishful thinking?) yet.

The Suicide Squad director's Tweet reads simply "making plans," along with an image of the Justice League from Mark Waid and Alex Ross' acclaimed comic series, Kingdom Come.

Now, it's worth noting that we're still not sure how much we should be reading into any of these posts. While it's certainly possible Gunn is teasing his plans for upcoming projects, he may simply be sharing images of DC characters he likes and/or might be interested in taking a look at down the line. Plus, Gunn could have chosen this particular shot of the heroes gathered around a table because it suited his Tweet!

That said, we did recently learn that the folks at Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions were interested in developing a Kingdom Come movie (or movies), with Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia indicating that the idea may have been discussed with Warner Bros. higher-ups.

Kingdom Come was a four-issue 1996 "Elseworlds" story set in the near future. It dealt with the reformation of the Justice League in an attempt to counter a new generation of heroes who have lost their moral compass. This sets up a battle of the old guard against these uncompromising protectors in a conflict that will define what heroism truly is and determine the future of the planet.

Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear that they are working towards a connected DCU across film, TV and animation, but Gunn did recently confirm that some projects - such as the upcoming Joker and The Batman sequels - will still be set in their own separate universes, so a Kingdom Come adaptation is not outside the realm of possibility.
