DEADPOOl 2 Has Now Crossed The $500 Million Milestone At The Worldwide Box Office

Deadpool 2 has now passed $500 million worldwide.

Eleven days after it hit theaters, The Merc With a Mouth's critically acclaimed sequel has taken in $218.5 million at the domestic box office, giving it a global total to $505 million. As impressive as this is, the movie is still pacing a little behind Wade Wilson's first solo outing, which had amassed over $240 million domestically in the same amount of time.

Both movies managed to hit the $500M milestone in eleven days, however.

Deadpool 2 has now more than recouped its $110 million budget, and will soon be setting its sights on The Hangover Part II's record for highest grossing comedy sequel of all-time ($587M).

@mastakilla39 - oh, are you not joking... money isn’t exactly synonymous with fame.

I’d say more people know about Han Solo and Justice league than Deadpool. That’s kinda common sense. They have been popular for decades longer than him.

I mean, it’s not like I skipped solo because I don’t like Han Solo. That’s the very reason I skipped it actually.

@BloodyBed - yes, but money is the only accurate measurement that counts. people speak with their cash. if more people show up to a deadpool film than a justice league or han solo movie it proves people like and resonate with deadpool more.

the argument that people didnt show up because the movie sucked is baseless. as there are many great films that flopped like blade runner 2049 and many bad films that had great success like suicide squad.

@mastakilla39 - That's a lot of rationalizing. Just admit you shouldn't have said "famous" and all these people arguing with you will stop.

@mastakilla39 - With those stupid logic, Avatar must be more popular and famous than the Avengers and Star Wars then.

@MyBeard - but im right. everyone just needs to stop replying, unless they have numbers to prove me wrong. i get that jl or han solo are more dear to people in the "past" but looking at the facts "today"....im correct.

@mastakilla39 - Why are you having trouble with the definition of "famous"? The word has a meaning; how well known something is; a meaning that existed long before there were films, let alone measuring those films by how much money they make.

The numbers that would be associated with fame are a poll that asked "have you heard of..." More people would answer yes to the Justice League and Han Solo as characters than to Deadpool. That's not the same thing as being willing to spend money on their movies.

I fully agree that the first Deadpool movie is more popular than both the Han Solo and Justice League films, and that Deadpool 2 may finish above them as well. It's just that popularity of a film, which is best measured in dollars, is not the same as how well known a character is.

Just ask yourself if a 3rd Deadpool film was made and flopped, would Deadpool then be less "famous"? Maybe even less famous than Han Solo and the Justice League? Would at that point fewer people know who Deadpool is than do now?
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 5/30/2018, 8:28 AM
@MyBeard - Yes, my point exactly. "famous" or any synonymn for that word is measured in cash. Unlike tv shows these films are made and released yearly. The success of 1 over the other will bury the competition more quickly. If DP3 comes out and flops in competition to Captain Marvel at the domestic and world wide market. Captain Marvel is now more famous than DP, JL, and Han Solo.

Being "well known" does not matter because it adds no cash value if the film flops or underperforms. Studios will not put money in a well known failure. This is why no 1 wanted to invest in the MCU or a Wonder Woman film in the early 2000s. Captain America and Wonder Woman were well known but all live action adaptations were critically and financial failures. Zorro was more well known and famous than those 2 in the 2000s.

@mastakilla39 - No. I've said nothing that supports your point.

fa·mous
[ˈfāməs]
ADJECTIVE
known about by many people.

There is nothing there about cash. There never will be. Money spent on something is not its renown.

I'll only agree that money spent is a measure of the popularity of one movie versus another movie. That isn't fame.

A successful movie can make a character more famous, but it isn't a measure of the preexisting awareness of a character. By your logic, Deadpool is more famous than Wolverine. He's not. People's awareness of Deadpool is growing because his 1st movie was successful and his 2nd movie is going to be pretty successful too. However, if you asked a hundred people to name a character from the X-men film or comic universe, more people would say Wolverine than any other character. He's the most famous X-man by a country mile.

Also by your logic, Deadpool is less famous now than he was in 2016 because this film isn't making as much money as the first one. That's ridiculous. Many more people know who Deadpool is now, after his first film, than did before his first film. Those people didn't suddenly forget who he was because his 2nd movie is making less money. They just, for whatever reason, didn't want to buy as many tickets to see the film. That should be clear to anyone who wants to use the word "famous" in an intellectually honest way.

I'm going to stop replying now. I was trying to help you avoid unnecessary arguments with other people, but I don't think you want that. I'm getting the feeling that you just want to 'win' an argument rather than be factually accurate. Have a good day.

@mastakilla39 - Han Solo is arguably as popular as Luke and Darth Vader. Starwars episode 4,5,6 and 7 had Han Solo in it. The new Han Solo is not my solo. So if you want to compare Han Solo with Deadpool atleast choose the true Han Solo. And justice league your talking Superman Batman and Wonderwoman you believe Deadpool is more known or loved then these comic book icon.

The original starwars with Han Solo is the 2nd biggest movie adjusted for inflation. TFA which had Harrison Ford from in center as Han Solo in advertising made 2 billion. How do you figure Deadpool is more popular then the Justice League or Han Solo. At most you can argue the box office of Justice league which is rediculas seeing that it received rotten reviews and was a mess behind production.
