Donald Glover And FX's DEADPOOL Animated Series Will Take Things In A Very Different Direction To The Movies

While shooting on Deadpool 2 continues, FX and Donald Glover (Han Solo) are similarly hard at work developing an animated series featuring the Merc with the Mouth. However, don't expect a carbon copy!

The success of Deadpool in 2016 took everyone by surprise and while the sequel is on the way, it still came as a surprise to learn that an animated series is being simultaneously developed by FX. However, before you go thinking that Ryan Reynolds will be reprising the role there too, the network's head has made it clear during a recent interview that this will be a different take on the Merc with the Mouth.

"Deadpool will be really different from the movies," he confirmed. "It has a different tone and editorial voice. [We] wanted to make something distinctly different from the movies." So, it could be that the show will take more cues from the comic books or will simply be even crazier but it's apparent that this animated take on the fan-favourite character isn't going to be just more of the same for fans.

Donald Glover is developing the series alongside his brother Stephen and the first season has been confirmed as running for ten episodes. Marvel and FX have already collaborated on Legion so it's easy to see why they want to team up again after that has found so much success. Are you guys looking forward to this animated take on Deadpool? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section.

I was expecting some news on SDCC, now i now why i didn't hear shit.

Do we at least know who will voice DP?
Whatever, the movie got DP right on every aspect, dunno what they are going to do, but i hope to god it will be different from what we've seen in Ultimate Spider-man....cause yikes.

The one in Hulk vs. Wolverine was the best!

@Doomsday8888 - That's Nolan North, the same guy they got for his videogame. He's the voice I use whenever Deadpool shows up in the comics.

Fine with me, deadpool is a really malleable character as long as the design is accurate

Hopefully this is good. But I think they should use the movies as a starting point, so that is easier for non comic book fans to get into it.

This really came out of nowhere from Glover. He's very creative, no denying that, but with Hollywood... yeah, I just hope that HE wants to do this and isn't just slapping his name on the work.

@Kurne - I understand that concern though Glover doesn't strike me as the type do something he doesn't care about. For instance him leaving both 30 Rock and Community before they were over.

Good. I hope it's as different from the films as possible.

Hopefully, Nolan North voices DP.

Controversial argument:

Nolan North's Deadpool is better than Reynolds

@BlackBeltJones - sometimes nolan's deadpool ventures to far into "annoying" territory.

I like both about the same. When reading, I mostly use nolan's voice, but Reynolds pops in every once in a while. I think they both fit very well, but Reynolds works better in calmer moments, and Nolan works well when shit gets wacky.

They should go for a design like this:

I really like the look of the yellow eyes on him. The first Marvel NOW volume that I read could almost be fully adapted into the series.

@BlackBeltJones @Invictor- correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't we be missing the point by adapting "actual" Deadpool storylines? I mean, half of his humor is meta-humor(he did make fun of Fabian Niciewaza when he returned in the 90s and stated his preference for Gail Simone and Joe Kelly), so wouldn't it make sense to come up with all-new storylines for his movies and tv shows?

Since it's an animated series, they could give him temporary costume variations for portions of the show, i.e.:

Deadpool, drake, superman, that drunk helicopter pilot in Rick and Morty: Nolan North is the king of voice actors. Well, whenever Troy baker isn't warming his throne.
