Robert Rodriguez in Talks to Direct Deadpool After All

It looks like Robert Rodriguez might direct Deadpool after all...

Last week at Comic-Con, Robert Rodriguez confirmed that he had indeed been given the script by Fox, and was reading it, though he refused to say if he was considering directing. Now according to The Los Angeles Times, Rodriguez is indeed, in negotiations to direct a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds.

There is no deal yet. Rodriguez and Fox are negotiating, but it's moved beyond the casual discussion stage and into the more substantive realm of deal points.

Deadpool will be kind of a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but will move in a completely different direction as if Wolverine never happened.

@otherside I'm not too crazy about a Deadpool movie either. I would rather a new Daredevil movie.

Given Deadpool's unique ability to be META, I'm sure the "sort of but not quite a sequel" status would be integrated into the plot. :p

Lauren Donner said the Deadpool movie is a reboot. So we won't have to worry about any mention of Barakapool, lol.

Awesome news. we knew ryan would be in it, that's why it's kind of a sequel, but really they know no one cares about that crap hole of a mess they made, we just care to see a good deadpool movie with Mr Reynolds. Sounds like the movies finally moving again! finally

@ destroyer14 lets get both movies made,daredevil & deadpool.
deadpool suicide kings is one of the best deadpool stories ever.
it featured some very cool charactors daredevil,spider-man & the punisher.
& villains tombstone & the wrecking crew.
would make a great crossover movie.

Now tell me stuff like this won't be epic....unfortunately unless it gets an R rating, this stuff won't see the light of day. But with Rodriguez directing? Maybe, JUST MAYBE, we might see this R rated dark comedy after all :D

I'm pretty sure that Marvel movies, Marvel studios or not, are trying to not be bad any more. Back in 2009, we had Wolverine and Punisher: War zone. At the time, Marvel Studios had their ambitious universe planned. Both of the Fox movies released in 2009 failed critically and in one case financially failed. They now strive to keep the rights while being "faithful"..believe it! Robert Rodriguez seems like the way to go with this. The stylized gore and wise-talking bad asses seem to be his thing. As well as Matthew Vaughn. Really, I'm not going to worry. If their studio is awful, why not bring in a decent director for it?

I honestly don't see the fascination with Deadpool. He seems like a one-note character to me. I mean, he's a guy that heals fast and is good with weapons and he kind of looks and talks like Spider-Man. I like the whole "breaking the fourth wall" thing. I root for any CBM to be good and I guess it's a good for the fans of the character, but there are sooooo many other Marvel characters I'd rather see immortalized on celluloid first. But I guess if you give me RR, RR, and a "hard R", I'll go see it! :)

Great news and a great find Destroyer! :) As much as I'd like to be excited over this news, the movie is being made by Fox, which pretty much guarantees thatt it'll be shit. ;(

God I hope this happens. He will make a great Deadpool movie!!!! It wont shit with RR behind it. He wont put up with their bullshit and hopefully its true that they ignore borigins! At least one spin off that could actually come out good from fox... HOPEFULLY!

I'm glad to hear this I really hope he decides to do it, because I think he's the man for the job. I'm also glad they are taking this into a new direction than in X-Men Origins Wolverine.

There would be so many possibilities for a Deadpool film.
The latest 'X-Men Origins Deadpool' one-shot comic has a great parody/premise of Wade interrogating prospective screenwriters for his movie.
But at least Rodriguez wont let Hollywood walk over his vision.

Robbie may actually do what fox has been wanting to happen with their comic book movie franchises...make it great. He did good with Sin City...he gets comics and how they should be conveyed and stick somewhat true to the source material instead of completely perverting them like most of these cbms have been over the past decade. Sure hope he does take this flick...i realllllly don't want them messing up Deadpool
